Summary:
The Director Commercial Development is accountable for the development and execution of strategies for early and late stage products within the Immunology and Fibrosis Franchises.
The role will ensure commercial leadership for clinical and brand development of pipeline assets, and will partner closely with Clinical, Medical, Regulatory and Development to drive development strategies that enable optimal commercial positioning and product uptake. This position will also work closely with commercial functions in key markets, Value Access and Pricing, BI&A, and Advocacy, to ensure appropriate input, leverage insights, and enable effective implementation of commercial brand strategy. (S)He will optimize the value of the franchise beyond the pipeline to identify areas for growth, seeking opportunities within and beyond the organization to fuel assigned product growth overall. This position reports to the ED Commercial Development. (S)He and will collaborate frequently with internal stakeholders in R&D, Business Development, Development, Medical, Marketing Regulatory and other functions supporting drug development and commercialization. Domestic and International travel will be required (20-30%).
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Establish the strategic platform for the development of pipeline brands. Develop plans to ensure that clinical development supports the creation of optimal product labeling and thus value
Oversee development of the long-range plan and forecasts for Celgene for assigned assets
Initiate the build out of a corporate presence in support of products in new areas
Serve as a key member of Development teams, representing the interests of the products from a commercial perspective. Be the expert on market dynamics, competitive development, medical landscape and access considerations. Build and own the brand plan inclusive of life cycle management and fast to market strategies;
Become expert within the competitive landscape to inform drug development and drive the value of the assets by ensuring a maximized value proposition is created
Identify and develop strategic relationships with advocacy organizations, medical societies and thought leaders within the space in conjunction with Advocacy and Medical leads
Manage the effective transfer of late Phase 3 development assets into the commercial teams where relevant;
Build brand characteristics including naming, scientific branding, brand positioning, and differentiation strategies to optimize future launch strategies
Communicate the commercial case and brand strategy to senior leadership and ensure successful transition at key stage gates
Skills/Knowledge Required:
Established and respected leader with a track record of advancing an organization in a collaborative way;
Thorough understanding of commercial aspects of brand development including market dynamics, clinical costs and timings, clinical operational feasibility, market access, patient advocacy, regulatory environments trial design, marketing skills, and reimbursement challenges across both domestic and international markets;
Strong understanding of the general drug development processes and regulatory pathways, product supply issues, manufacturing, distribution. Collaborates across the organization to incorporate the needs of internal stakeholders in the overall brand development planning process;
Deep knowledge of therapy area or the proven ability to acquire this rapidly. Existing customer relationships preferred
Ability to leverage knowledge of marketplace and economic forces to translate long-term strategy into clear, short-term plans and goals with a strong focus on execution, accountability and acting with integrity;
Strong financial acumen with the ability to assimilate complex information to design and manage budgets and meet financial targets;
Demonstrated ability to build and improve internal systems and processes that are aligned to organizational priorities;
Understanding of analytics sources and techniques from forecasting to primary research collection to derive deep insights into customers including physicians, patients, and payers, to inform product and disease strategies
QUALIFICATIONS
BS/BA required;
MBA and/or biological science degree preferred
Minimum of 10 years of pharmaceutical industry experience in marketing, strategy, new product launch and/or business development. Demonstrated strategic cross functional leadership experience would be an advantage.
