Job Description

The Principal Engineering Technician is a member of the Verification & Validation (V & V) team. Principal Engineering Technician works closely with R&D; engineers in translating design ideas to physical test fixtures and prototypes. Key to this role is having significant depth and experience as a technician and a can-do mindset. The applicant should be very hands-on and be passionate about developing innovative solutions. Applicant should thrive in a team environment and have self-initiative to execute tasks independently.

Responsibilities

* Research, evaluate, procure and set-up test equipment and maintain inventory of supplies and manage lab assets.
* Create calibration schedule, track, and maintain calibration of equipment.
* Create maintenance requirements, schedule, and maintain equipment in good working order.
* Work under general supervision and establish lab operating procedures.
* Support Lab Manager in lab maintenance and housekeeping.
* Implement training regimen for lab procedures and recommend lab process improvements.
* Work with R&D; engineers to design, procure parts, build, and validate custom manual and automated test fixtures and equipment.
* Perform and supervise failure investigations and product testing.
* Develop, test, and maintain an automated method for receiving global test requests, e.g. SharePoint, Website or similar.
* Coordinate with project teams and create schedule for testing, based on project priorities.
* Assign technician support to test requests and coordinate with technicians for on time completion of tests.

Qualifications

Minimum

* Associates degree in relevant field and minimum of 8 years of experience with electro-mechanical systems.
* Ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical systems and determine root cause.
* Technical and practical knowledge of test fixture development.
* Experience with current CAD modeling tools (preferably SolidWorks).
* Able to work with minimal supervision and deal with a high level of ambiguity.
* Effective interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills.
* Ability to understand, set up and perform designed test procedures.
* General technical knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques.
* Practical experience with small hand tools and/or precision devices to aid in test or pilot manufacturing processes.
* Practical and technical knowledge of common lab instrumentation and equipment used for test or pilot manufacturing processes.

Desired

* 2+ years of experience with automated test tools (LabVIEW, C/C++).
* SolidWorks Proficiency.
* Experience with MSA, Gage R & R.
* Knowledge of documentation requirements per ISO13485/FDA QSR quality systems.
* General functional and technical knowledge of statistical methods and root cause analysis.
