Job Description
Supervise the Station Electrician and/or the Station Servicer crews in the construction and/or maintenance and operations work; respond to station trouble calls and perform/assist in service restoration work of station equipment and structures. Plan and schedule work assuring a safe and efficient flow of activities. Lead crews in a manner that is supportive of and consistent with the Transmission cultural pillars and the AEP Leadership framework. Assure all work will be performed in accordance with Company safety rules and practices. Perform Station Electrician and/or Station Servicer work as required. Activities associated with the performance of this work include planning procedures, directing or supervising assigned crew members, and exercising independent judgment in dealing with work and employee concerns.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:
1.) Supervise and responsibly direct the activity of assigned crew in the construction, maintenance and operation and/or responding to station trouble calls and restoration of; station equipment and structures using approved methods and procedures.
2.) Assure the proper and safe use of tools and equipment, and the safety, welfare and training of personnel assigned.
3.) Implement short range work plans and organize daily work activities of assigned crew. Coordinate work with other crews working on the same job site or project.
4.) Respond to emergency situations and outages as directed. Independently respond to distribution outages when required.
5.) Procure materials, tools and equipment as required.
6.) Comply with practices, policies and standards of the Company that apply to transmission station work.
7.) Maintain good interpersonal working relationships with employees, vendors, contractors and the public.
8.) Understand and apply the provisions of the Management Information and Policy Manual, labor contracts, employee handbook and applicable employee handbook supplements.
9.) Attend supervisory, site visit, and work scheduling meetings as required.
10.) Maintain contacts between departments/functions and other respective groups of Transmission and the Company.
11.) Keep immediate supervisor advised on activities and create and maintain records and reports as required.
12.) Perform the duties of a Station Electrician and/or Station Servicer as required.
13.) Assist with responsibilities involving buildings, transportation equipment maintenance, and remote stores inventory if located remote from headquarters location.
14.) Make effective recommendations for employment, promotion discipline and discharge of personnel assigned.
Minimum Requirements Education: Associate degree in electrical/mechanical/industrial maintenance technology or equivalent education and/or experience. Equivalent education and experience is limited to military training and work experience of technical/technician nature (such as aviation and nuclear instrumentation technician); or recent experience (within last 6 months) as a Station Electrician or equivalent job title with another utility or contractor.
License(s)/Certification(s): Must maintain a valid state driver's license. Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of Station experience; candidates must possess a minimum of 4 years Station experience to be considered. Experience would include the following:
1) A good working knowledge of procedures, practices, methods, standards, codes, and theory relating to the work.
2) A thorough working knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair procedures of HV electrical equipment.
3) Must be able to interpret prints and manufacturers' drawings.
4) Basic understanding of technical aspects of transmission station equipment operation and systems.
5) Ability to perform basic computer work.
6) Must be thoroughly familiar with the Company safety rules and practices and be proficient in the application of resuscitation and first aid as presented in the Company Safety Manual.
7) Demonstrated ability to supervise employees, interpret and transmit orders, and give instructions in a manner which obtains effective work results.
8) Ability to deal with employees, customers, and the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
9) Must maintain a valid state driver's license. Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.
