This position provides legal support to the Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS) business, a core business of American Express and fundamental to the operation of the American Express network. GMNS builds and maintains relationships with merchants that choose to accept the American Express Card by signing merchants to accept the Card, processing Card transactions and providing marketing and other innovative programs and services. This position will help to support several key business teams within GMNS.

Heres just some of what youll do in this role:
* Provide primary legal support for business groups managing merchant relationships, working with a highly skilled and experienced team of lawyers and legal managers
* Provide legal support directly on all aspects of commercial agreements, including Card acceptance and related business relationships and issues relating to merchants
* Negotiate, draft, and ensure execution of complex Card acceptance agreements and working in close collaboration with other practice groups across the GCO
* Provide counseling and support to GMS business teams on strategic legal and policy matters, business negotiations, marketing and information services, issues and programs, and regulatory and legal risks
* Coordinate with and supporting others in the GCO, Compliance, Operational Risk and the business, to ensure the most effective support and relevant expertise is applied to particular matters
* Participate in a small team of seasoned attorneys and legal managers, offering thought leadership for cross-subject matter practice group issues and projects
* ffective, cost-conscious targeted engagements of outside counsel where necessary, with a disciplined approach to budget management
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:
* Bachelors degree & J.D.
* Admitted to New York Bar or eligibility to do so
* 6+ years of relevant legal experience
* Specific experience and knowledge in drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial agreements

* Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, in both written and oral format
