Day to Day (what a typical day or week looks like in this role)
Broad responsibilities at both enterprise level and business unit level for driving and enabling the strategic development and execution of Whirlpool Corporation's Ethics & Compliance program, including enabling effective enterprise oversight of cross-functional compliance risk management; coordinating compliance training, communications and procedures; promoting and managing the Company's Ethics Hotline; coordinating compliance investigations; representing and defending the Company in government, regulatory or other administrative investigations or other compliance or legal actions. Reports to the Chief Compliance Officer.
What You Will Do
Manage Effective Operations of Whirlpools Global Compliance Program
* Manage global compliance program, including effective management of resources, and ensuring systematic and effective risk identification, training & communication, reporting, investigation & follow up.
* Oversee global process for management of the hotline system - the global vehicle for anonymous reporting of concerns - to ensure that each hotline call is investigated appropriately in a timely manner by the appropriate function (Law, Internal Audit, HR, etc.), to properly escalate issues, and to ensure remedial actions are adequately documented. This includes leading continuous improvement of processes to update the system and investigation procedures.
* Independently lead and manage cross-functional projects relating to compliance, such as third party due diligence, training programs, and design and implement systems and controls.
* Drive the development of global Ethics and Compliance training, including developing new courses with our external training vendor, managing the roll-out of new courses and overseeing the global tracking of course completions.
Provide Compliance Counsel and Subject Matter Expertise
* Provide proactive advice and act as a key advisor and thought leader on Anti-Bribery, Anti-Corruption, Sanctions and other topics, as requested by the Chief Compliance Officer, with minimal supervision to achieve confident and educated business and legal teams. It may also include the development of training material, templates, and processes and working with Internal Audit to develop a monitoring process.
* Provide legal advice and effectively represent and defend the Company in the event of governmental, regulatory, or administrative inquiries, investigations or other legal or compliance action. Setting legal strategy and engaging expert legal and other resources as necessary. Coordinating with legal peers and subject matter experts, as well as with business partners to achieve best outcomes in the circumstances.
* Review reports of alleged noncompliance with Company policies, including sensitive or high risk matters, and coordinate investigations to ensure they are completed promptly and effectively and that investigations and remedial actions are properly documented and are sufficient.
* Use analytical skills to analyze risks and data from hotline and other sources to inform global strategy.
* Assist in reviewing and updating the Company's Code of Ethics and global compliance policies, compliance procedures and controls, and related deployment plans.
* Foster a culture of compliance through periodic, in-person training and leadership communications on various topics and Whirlpool Values.
Work Effectively with Business Leaders
* Work effectively with business leaders to develop processes, train, conduct investigations and give advice on specific legal matters.
* Develop and coordinate Corporate Compliance communications, including developing global communications and presentations to internal stakeholders such as Senior Management and the Audit Committee of the Board.

* Law Degree required
Leadership Skills
* Strong interpersonal and leadership skills in order to inspire followership globally

* Ability to resolve issues effectively, diplomatically and efficiently
Technical Skills
* 5-7 years of experience in a compliance role or a Legal role with significant compliance responsibilities; litigation or disputes resolution experience a plus
* Expertise of anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws and global sanctions, strong understanding of other legal and regulatory compliance standards and issues globally; international experience strongly preferred
Business Skills
* Excellent presentation and communications skills, both written and verbal, including confidence and presence to engage effectively with senior executives.
* Ability to create and deliver clear, concise, compelling presentations and training
* Ability to find practical, balanced solutions
* Business acumen and a desire and proven ability to understand compliance risk in business context

* Strong project management and organizational skills
* Ability to effectively implement compliance processes and evaluate effectiveness of compliance controls
