Job Summary

Millstone Power Station in Waterford, CT is seeking a Radioactive Material Technician I or II.

Radioactive Material Technician I

Performs work associated with minor decontamination. Assists with operation of equipment to perform decontamination of plant equipment, tools, floors, and sump and tank cleaning. Ensures that inventories of decontamination agents and materials to prevent the spread of contamination are maintained. Perform housekeeping activities and light bulb replacement in the Radiological Controlled Areas within designated power block facilities and waste processing buildings. Collects radioactive waste inside the power block and prepares it for movement to waste processing facilities. Assist with movement and control of radioactive material across RCA boundaries. Maintain radioactive material inventories as required. Performs waste segregation activities and assist in waste packaging. Assists supervision in the shipment and receipt of all radioactive material on and off site and with maintaining an effective radwaste volume reduction program. Operates forklifts and other handling equipment to safely deliver and pick up material as required. Use hand and power tools to perform assigned work. Reports need for obvious maintenance of Radiation Protection equipment. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

Radioactive Material Technician II

Perform repairs, testing, setup and operation of radiation protection equipment such as, hepas, vacuums, steam cleaners and Hydrolasers. Perform decontamination of plant equipment, tools, floors drains, etc. Perform de-sludging, cleaning, and decontamination of plant tanks and sumps. Perform routine radiation and contamination surveys of own material. Prepare radioactive material and waste shipments in compliance with the applicable state/federal regulations, processing facility criteria and/or burial site requirements. Prepare DOT and NRC approved packaging for shipment in compliance with applicable codes, standards and procedures. Process radioactive waste, dry active, green is clean, oil & grease, liquid, etc into approved packaging and prepare for shipment per receiving licensee waste acceptance criteria. Perform setup of the resin and filter waste receiving liners, shielded transfer cask and dewatering/drying equipment. Performs resin and filter dewatering/drying task. Collect and prepare 10CFR 61 waste stream samples for analysis. Receives radioactive material shipments, store items and deliver to owner. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

The successful candidate will be required to be a part of the Station Emergency Response Organization (SERO).

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Radioactive Material Technician I

* Requires 2 years of experience with the safe handling of radioactive materials.

Radioactive Material Technician II

* Requires 5 years of experience with the safe handling of radioactive materials.

Additionally, the Radioactive Material Technician II must have the following:

* Proven ability and skill in performing repairs, testing, setup and operating radiation protective equipment.
* Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements and procedures to ensure the safe preparation and shipment of radioactive waste material, and the collection and preparation of waste stream samples.

Both levels

* Must be qualified and able to perform the responsibilities and tasks of the position to accurately read, interpret, and comply with company/department procedures, provide attention to detail, and to minimize errors.
* Must have the ability to read and operate various radiation needs; perform simple calculations using basic arithmetic and applicable health physics procedures.
* Basic computer skills are required for data entry into various programs.
* Should have proven mechanical ability and skill in operating, modifying and maintaining department equipment including pumps, power tools, overhead cranes, etc.
* The candidate is expected to obtain and maintain regulatory qualifications as provided by the work group.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Current Radioactive Worker qualification.
* Forklift and electric pallet jack experience.
* Rigging and Lifting experience.

Note:
A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will count as one year toward the year of experience.

A Master's Degree will count as one year toward the years of experience.
Education Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
