The Global Medical Affairs Oncology External Scientific Engagement Leader will be responsible for engaging externally with key global patient research and advocacy leaders, patient advocacy organizations, medical/scientific organizations and societies and broadly support the Global Medical Affairs team with thought leader engagement best practices and activities. They will partner closely with the Vice President of Global Medical Affairs, Global Head of Medical Affairs Strategy Planning and Execution, Global Medical Affairs Leaders (GMALs), members of CDTs, key R&D; and DAS leaders and Communications team to support the oncology TA.
They will be responsible for the development of one global key stakeholder engagement map for key disease areas we work, identifying key patient advocacy and research, medical and scientific organizations and ensuring clarity on the key scientific and medical thought leaders (both traditional and non-traditional, e.g., eKOLs) we need to engage to support the optimal development of the Janssen portfolio. In particular, they will ensure we have a comprehensive understanding of key external research organizations (i.e. cooperative groups). S/he will also support the goal of including patient research advocates in key globally conducted advisory boards. They will work across the Janssen and Johnson & Johnson organization partnering with other key internal stakeholders to support our one unified engagement of these key organizations. S/he will also be responsible for supporting best practices broadly with thought leader engagement across the Oncology Global Medical Affairs organization, working closely with the GMALs and GMADs. A key aspect of their role will be to ensure the patient voice and external medical and scientific insights are brought back into the different asset teams to support the development of global medical affairs plans that are grounded in addressing the unmet needs of the patient and medical community.
The Oncology External Scientific Engagement Leader will be an ad hoc member of Global Medical Affairs Teams (GMATs) and DAS and R&D; working groups focused on key disease areas. In addition, they will participate in supporting Global Commercial Teams and Global Market Access teams in the engagement of external thought leaders, patient research and advocacy organizations and medical societies focused in key disease areas. They will partner with the GMALs for the development of global medical affairs plans that reflect prioritized regional needs, and which are included in the overall Compound Development Plan and asset Medical Plan. The Oncology External Scientific Engagement Leader will also be responsible for facilitating and ensuring a consistent and high-quality approach across the GMA Oncology team in key disease areas supporting global late-stage Medical Affairs programs/activities.
The Oncology External Scientific Engagement Leader will collaborate closely with the GMALs supporting the development of integrated global medical affairs strategies and plans. Synchronize input and output of the Med Affairs plan with the strategic and business plan calendars. They will support the VP of Global Medical Affairs, Global Head of Medical Affairs Strategy Planning and Execution and GMALs in external engagement of key stakeholders as well as pre-launch global KOL communications & speaker development. The Oncology External Scientific Engagement Leader will also support the overall integrated evidence generation activities within Global Medical Affairs for key assets in specific disease areas to support the integration of the patient and external scientific and medical voice. Responsible to ensure all global activities follow J&J; Compliance principles, e.g. Health Care Compliance, etc.
Qualifications
* A minimum of a masters level advanced scientific/medical degree (e.g. MD, PhD, PharmD, MPH or other masters level degree)
* Broad experience in the oncology and malignant hematology disease areas, with a preference for experience in prostate cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, B-cell malignancies and multiple myeloma
* Established global network of external patient research, advocacy and scientific/medical organizations would be strongly preferred
* Prior experience in a medical affairs or scientific role for 4+ years is required, with proven track record in building and establishing peer-to-peer external relationships
* Prior experience with thought leader management and best practices is strongly preferred
* A minimum of 6-9 years of combined relevant experience in a medical/clinical environment, scientific function in the pharmaceutical industry is required
* Knowledge of oncology and malignant hematology and understanding of disease landscape and treatment
* Experience working within and contributing to highly matrixed, cross-functional work teams comprised of high-level managers and executives is required
* A demonstrated track record of success within Medical Affairs, clinical environment and/or scientific function required
* Global mindset required, ability to partner cross culturally/regionally is preferred
* Highly desired to have strong experience developing and managing strategic relationships with patient research and advocacy leaders and medical experts/thought leaders
* Proven business understanding
* A minimum of 30% international travel is required
