In this job, youll oversee compliance, policy and strategy related to SCEs participation in the California Independent System Operator CAISO market. This includes working with SCEs regulatory, planning, and energy contracts team, participating in CAISO and CPUC workshops, meeting regularly with CAISO to address issues related to market operations, and following/tracking updates to the CAISO tariff. Additionally, as power plants and energy storage facilities enter and exit our portfolio, this position will ensure the teams are prepared to bid these resources into the market and connect the internal teams necessary for a successful transition. * Track existing and proposed CAISO market rule changes (Tariff and Business Practice Manuals) providing an in-depth perspective and understanding to leaders and teams within Trading & Market Operations (TMO); recommend needed course of action (e.g. advocacy or strategy changes) as to mitigate risks or monetize opportunities; Work closely with the regulatory affairs team on responses and strategy. Serve as a liaison with SCEs CAISO representative managing monthly and quarterly meetings and agenda topics
* Analyze the impact of current and future market designs on SCEs energy procurement and asset optimization activities; provide feedback and future design recommendations to internal stakeholders, management, and the CAISO;
* Project manage TMOs compliance role working closely with EPMs compliance team.
* Interact with external parties (e.g. CPUC, CAISO, Public Advocates Office), including responding to data requests, leading on-site tours, and putting together presentations and other materials to support SCEs positions and obtain stakeholder buy-in. Advocate for market improvements through direct communication with external parties (e.g. CAISO, CPUC) and in CAISOs stakeholder processes.
* Support energy storage analysis and framework for integration of energy storage resources
* Coordinate and oversee the on-boarding and off-boarding of energy resources into SCEs energy portfolio. Work with all groups across TMO and EPM to ensure a smooth transition

Qualifications
The essentials

* Ten or more years of experience in the field of analysis, regulatory, and/or technical project management.
* Experience in organized energy markets (e.g. CAISO, PJM, MISO, etc.), including structure, operations, rules, and regulations.
* Understanding of power markets and the related regulatory requirements (e.g. FERC standards of conduct, CPUC Least Cost Dispatch principles) that govern SCEs market participation.
* Knowledge and experience with regulatory policies, methods, and power planning principles.
* Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

The preferred

* Expertise in the CAISO market structure and operations
* Deep understanding of California energy policy.
* Five or more years of experience in quantitative analytics of energy markets
* Understanding of front, middle, and back office functions.
* Advanced proficiency with tools such as Excel, PowerBI, database and statistical modeling tools.
* Expertise in financial modeling, cost-benefit analysis and/or valuation.

* Position will require up to 25% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory in the future.
* Relocation may apply to this position.
* This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
