Responsibilities

The Senior Underwriting Assistant provides set up and administration assistance to the underwriting team. This position will report to the Underwriting set up manager and will work closely with both sales and underwriting. Organizational skills and attention to detail play a key role, as this position sets up and tracks all underwriting folders with account information. As a Senior Assistant, this person is expected to have already been introduced to stop loss and the primary case set up functions, as well has have a working knowledge of the David Young System (or similar underwriting/rating system). Additionally, the Senior Assistant is expected to carry a higher case load volume, as he/she has gained experience and efficiency in case set up as an entry level assistant.

* Review Request for Proposal (RFP) for completeness.
* Correspond with external customers (Third Party Administrators and brokers) on declinations or where additional RFP information is required to complete the submission.
* Communicate with the underwriting setup manager to ensure customer deadlines are met.
* Set up folders in our shared drive for all information received for new submissions.
* Run census in Excel spreadsheet for each submission.
* Log submission in David Young System (DYS) including benefits, reinsurance terms, and census.
* Train on entering specific and aggregate loss data into DYS.
* Take on additional project work throughout the year during off-peak production cycle, in support of segment underwriting team.

Qualifications

* High School Diploma, with strong preference for some post graduate studies (Associates Degree or Bachelor Degree for candidates considering further advancement within the organization).
* At least 2 years experience as an entry level assistant.
* Experience in using DYS or a similar underwriting / rating platform a plus.
* Highly organized, with strong attention to detail.
* Grasps new concepts quickly and efficiently.
* Microsoft Office experience, with a focus on Excel. Knowledge of filtering and pivot tables is desirable.
* Ability to prioritize and multitask while handling high volumes of work during peak production periods, with limited error.
* Ability to work well under pressure, in a team environment.
