The Oncology Scheduler at USMD / Optum is responsible for scheduling appointments for medical oncology office visits from referring physicians and patients at multiple locations. The Scheduler is responsible for capturing and updating patient demographics into the EMR, verification of benefits and patient eligibility. Individuals must maintain excellent customer service relations with patients, office staff and physicians.

Primary Responsibilities:

* Schedules appointments accurately and completes pre-registrations including insurance verification, identifies POS collections amts
* Reschedules and cancels appointments and communicating as needed with patients / families and departments / clinics
* Demonstrates positive customer service when greeting patients, care providers and others
* Secures demographics, guardian and emergency contacts, guarantor and coverage information
* Verifies insurance eligibility for services
* Updates registration when patients information changes
* Enters in system and notifies patients of co-payments, deductibles or deposits needed
* Enters signed, faxed orders to appointment and scans original to the electronic record
* Demonstrates positive customer service when greeting patients, care providers and others
* Perform a variety of miscellaneous job responsibilities pertinent to the workflow of the position
* Performs all other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

* High school diploma or GED
* Experience working with medical EMR systems
* Skill in typing and usage of Microsoft Outlook and Word
* Employees are required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive VoiceResponse (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group approved symptom screener prior to entering the work site each day, in order to keep our work sites safe. Employees must comply with any state and local masking orders. In addition, when in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are expected to wear a mask in areas where physical distancing cannot be attained
* You will be provisioned with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and are required to perform this role with patients and members on site, as this is an essential function of this role

Preferred Qualifications:
* Knowledge of medical terminology
* 2+ years of experience in patient scheduling or health care registration
* Experience working in a medical or oncology practice
* Ability to pay close attention to detail
* Ability to work with minimal supervision
