Sr Power Amplifier Design Engineer

Job Purpose:

The design engineering group provides complete end-to-end product development solutions to a variety of customers. These product solutions include development of test and measurement modules, 4&5G macro cell frequency variants, optical modules, etc. The team delivers product solutions from concept definition through to volume manufacturing.

The design team is seeking a Sr. Power Amplifier Designer. Responsibilities include the execution of complex power amplifier designs for radio access, instrumentation, and radar applications. The candidate will be expected collaborate with a cross function product development team to deliver products from concept through to manufacturing.

Nature of Duties:

* Provide detailed design of high power RF amplifiers for a variety of amplifier classes including doherty configurations in both sub 6GHz and mm wave applications
* Develop system budgets to select amplifiers and drivers in a cascaded configuration which achieves design requirements such as ACLR, IP3, P1dB, and noise figure
* Perform detailed design through simulation of co-simulation of transistor models and layouts
* Complete detailed characterization of amplifiers including source/load pull, and DPD optimization
* Develop active bias circuits for amplifiers operating in a variety of classes and semiconductor technologies
* Execute schematic capture and support PCB layout of RF circuits
* Develop design verification test plans and execute test
* Develop software scripts to automate repetitive aspects of verification testing
* As part of integrated product development team, participate in every phase of product development, including requirements definition, architecture and concept definition, specification and selection of components, control and monitoring requirements, algorithm definition, detailed implementation, integration and characterization

Education and Experience:

* Relevant degree in electrical engineering
* 8 years of RF amplifier development experience with LDMOS, GaAs and GaN technologies
* Expert level experience with measurement equipment such as source/load pull equipment, VNA, signal generators/analyzers
* Knowledge of 3GPP 4G and 5G NR protocols and regulatory requirements
* Understanding of DPD techniques and requirements
* Experience with 3D EM simulations such as HFSS, CST or Hyperlynx
* Experience with simulation and capture tools, ADS, Momentum, Genesys, OrCAD, Allegro.
* Ability to complete simple PCB layout is an asset.
* Programming experience in Matlab, C++, Python an asset.
