Raytheon Vision Systems Mechanical Engineering team is seeking a Principal Document Checker Engineer. This position examines engineering documents for soundness, efficiency, and simplicity in design; completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy; correctness of materials and processes; conformity to drafting standards, design specifications, and practicability; and economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation. Job duties include verification that the presentation of drawing/document communicates the design intent correctly. May refer to established precedents and policies. Documentation checking and technical writing experience may include areas such as system requirements, test procedures, detailed procedures, supplemental instructions and vendor statements of work. Candidate will perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the engineering and manufacturing organizations. The candidate will work closely with a design engineers to ensure that the drawing will meet assembly requirements. The candidate will engage in technical discussions with internal customers. This position is located in Goleta, CA and open to part time telecommuting.

Required Skills:
* Ability to conceptualize document check principles into written format
* Proficient user of cPDM and Creo (or Pro/E)
* Proficient user of Microsoft Work, Excel and Powerpoint
* Demonstrated experience using documentation specifications such as MIL-STD-961 and Corporate Drafting Guidelines
* Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering Process for documentation checking
* Background in methods/processes related to testing and requirements documentation
* Complete understanding and application of principles, practices and standards for creation and preparation of engineering documentation
* Technical Writing Skills
* US Citizenship as this position will require a DoD security clearance within 1st year of employment
* Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing form controls in accordance with ASME or ANSI Y14.5M.

Desired Skills:

* Expert knowledge of Creo/Pro-E CAD tool and Windchill Common PDM.
* Working knowledge of mechanical assembly and fitment techniques.
* Basic knowledge of DFMA and DTC.
* Expert knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing form controls in accordance with ASME or ANSI Y14.5M.
* History of teaching or mentoring on the idiosyncrasies of ASME or ANSI Y14.5M.
* Background in manufacturing methods/processes and assembly fixtures and gage design.

Required Education (including Major):

* Associates degree in technical field with 10+ years experience or High School diploma with 15+ years experience
