Description

The Optimization Engineer provides process technical expertise and services focused on technical support (troubleshooting, monitoring, and optimization) for operations to achieve optimum unit performance while maintaining and complying with safety and environmental standards. They are also responsible for small process engineering designs and support for project development within the area teams. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance, economics planning and PSM.

Responsibilities May Include

* Monitoring/evaluating unit performance and maintaining effective monitoring reports

* Troubleshooting operational and process quality problems

* Developing solutions for unit optimization

* Generating ideas and developing process design improvement projects for strategic and real business improvement

* Providing technical content for operating procedures

* Providing detailed process specifications and maintaining P&ID's and equipment data sheets

* Completing process hazard analysis and process safety management (PSM) requirements, including the completion of action items

* Ensuring full Management of Change (MOC) compliance in all their activities

* Developing and monitoring key performance metrics for assigned units

* Providing guidance to operations consistent with environmental and operational requirements

* Maintaining capital and operating expense budget

* Working with others out in the refinery; must have the ability to climb ladders and towers and wear Personal Protective Equipment

* Performing internal operating vessel inspections

* Utilizing DCS and advanced process control to optimize operating units

Position Requirements

Basic/Required:

* Legally authorized to work in the posting country

* Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering

* 10 or more years of direct experience in refining and/or the chemical industry in the field of process engineering

* Valid driver's license

* Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

Preferred:

* Catalytic reaction operational experience

* Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment.

* Experience with process simulation programs such as Hysys, AspenPlus, or Petro-Sim

* Proficient in Microsoft suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)

The Ponca City Refinery is located in Ponca City, Oklahoma, approximately 95 miles northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes a mixture of light, medium and heavy crude oil delivered via pipeline from Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, the U.S. Rockies and Canada. Infrastructure improvements have enabled the delivery of locally produced crude oil by pipeline and truck. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels and anode-grade petroleum coke. Refined products are primarily distributed to customers by company-owned and common carrier pipelines to markets throughout the Midcontinent region.
