Department Overview

This position sits within the Distributed Generation Enabled Microgrid Services (DGEMS) Program Management Office (PMO) which resides within PG&E's broader Energy Policy and Procurement Organization. The DGEMS PMO was established in January of 2020 and is tasked with developing PG&E's strategy for using permanent and temporary generation at substations to mitigate the impacts of upstream transmission-line outages caused by Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events and to support other emergency events and reliability needs. The DGEMS PMO also oversees procurement of generation for this purpose and is working to integrate increasingly cleaner technologies into PG&E's microgrid portfolio. In 2020, PG&E prepared 60 substations to receive temporary generation and reserved approximately 350MW of temporary generation for this purpose. In addition to supporting customers during PSPS events, these substation microgrids also help keep the lights on during the state's electricity shortages during the summer of 2020. The DGEMS PMO also supports coordination across three other generation-based workstreams intended to mitigate the impacts of PSPS events on customers and collaborates with other non-generation PSPS mitigation workstreams.

Position Summary

The DGEMS PMO is seeking a Microgrid Tracking and Reporting Lead to support the team's many cross-functional workstreams. We are looking for someone who possesses an understanding of project management and strategy formulation best-practices with the ability to quickly develop a functional expertise in new areas. A background in microgrids is NOT necessary. A strong applicant will be organized, collaborative, strategic, bold, creative, and an excellent communicator.

Job Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Microgrid Tracking and Reporting Lead will include:

* Communicate with peers inside of PG&E to exchange ideas or gather information
* Develop, measure, and report on workstream progress
* Draft materials for meetings (agendas, slide decks, talking points, etc.)
* Act as recorder at meetings
* Draft responses to various reporting requests (e.g., LTIP metric, BPR/Redbook, etc.)
* Ensure appropriate records management
* Identify and maintain strong working relationships with all strategic programs and partners

Qualifications

Minimum:

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
* 3 years of relevant experience in project management or equivalent

Desired:

* Experience managing large, cross-functional projects and programs involving significant number of stakeholders
* Established toolkit of project management best-practices
* Ability to rapidly develop a functional expertise and strong working relationships with subject-matter experts
* Experience driving complex problems towards resolution in an ambiguous environment with insufficient information and resources
* Demonstrated experience applying analytical tools, methodologies, and frameworks to business or policy issues in the electric or natural gas industries
* Experience performing project/program management, product development, or analytic work related to electric or natural gas policy, pilots, planning, regulation, or wholesale markets.
* Ability to solve unique and complex problems, anticipating issues and developing innovative solutions
* Proficiency with tools and methods for project management and continuous improvement
* Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills; including meeting facilitation
* Understanding of the California energy policy landscape, including key regulatory bodies and processes as well as stakeholders
* Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously with an array of stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
