Basic Job Functions:

This position is responsible for the fabrication and modification of parts to maximize production efficiency. The incumbent is routinely exposed to conditions such as, but not limited to high levels of noise, grease, dust, and heat.



Duties:

* Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
* Ability to calculate tolerances using mathematics and measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
* Measure, examine, and test completed parts in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
* Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
* Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
* Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations to fabricate product.
* Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
* Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
* Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.
* Evaluate experimental procedures, and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
* Design fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
* All other duties as assigned.

The Raw Materials segment produces direct reduced iron (DRI); processes ferrous and nonferrous metals; brokers ferrous and nonferrous metals, pig iron, DRI, and hot briquetted iron; supplies ferro-alloys; and processes ferrous and nonferrous scrap metal, as well as engages in the natural gas drilling operations. This segment sells its ferrous scrap to electric arc furnace steel mills and foundries for manufacturing process; and nonferrous scrap metal to aluminum can producers, secondary aluminum smelters, steel mills and other processors, and consumers of various nonferrous metals.

The company offers its products through its in-house sales forces; and internal distribution and trading companies. The company was founded in 1940 and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
