SSSD has an opening for a System Safety Engineering Section Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

The System Safety Engineering Section Manager is a dual-hat Engineering Manager responsible for both section management (up to 20% of time) and existing program responsibilities (80% or more of time). Along with reporting into a program, the section manager is also a member of the Space Systems Sector Specialty Systems Engineering Department.

Leadership skills are required to manage and counsel team members and interns. This section manager shall be the functional leadership contact for the Specialty Systems Engineering Department and will support and implement activities supporting system safety engineering initiatives, reporting directly to the Specialty Systems Engineering Department Manager.

Role and Responsibilities:

- Perform resource planning and staffing to meet program demands. Become a magnet for reliability engineering talent utilizing career fairs, social networking and college hiring events.

- Promote team member development; including skills training, professional seminar sponsorship, and modernize learning material. Be their advocate for career advancement by promoting knowledge sharing and mentor / prot eacute;g eacute; relationships

- Execute performance management, including employee goal setting, feedback solicitation, annual reviews, and compensation planning and issues resolution

- Lead deployment, measurement and improvement of tailored, lean, Specialty Systems Engineering processes, tools and sponsor reduction strategies

- Provide proposal support, technical project standup, program reviews (IRT, PSRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) while increasing the competitiveness of the organization to add department value.

- Meeting indirect budget targets and interpreting higher level guidance for implementation within the organization for process implementation and improvement.

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

- Bachelor rsquo;s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5+ years of engineering experience OR

- Master 39;s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline with 3+ years of engineering experience.

Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:

- Dept. of Defense Secret level with a background investigation date within 10 years OR

- Dept. of Energy L clearance with a background investigation date within 10 years

- Candidate must be eligible to obtain DoD Top Secret and SCI clearances.

- Demonstrated experience in Systems Engineering and/or System Safety Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Current full time program assignment at the Northrop Grumman Redondo Beach, California location.

- Graduate degree in Engineering, or closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution.

- Proactive leadership skills, demonstrated communication and teamwork skills.

- Ability to effectively interface with other Engineering and Production disciplines across the Sector, as well as Programs, Business Development, HR, Mission Assurance, etc.

- Active DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years.

- Previous hands-on experience with System Safety Engineering in the aerospace industry.

- Desired experiences are: 1) Safety requirements evaluation/decomposition/allocations, 2) System Safety Program Plan generation, 3) hazard assessments and document, 4) Safety packages for the ranges (Missile System Prelaunch Safety Package (MSPSP) IAW AFSPCMAN 91-710, 5) safety support to high bay operations, 6) safety support to satellite processing operations at the launch site.

- Understanding of the System Safety processes as set forth in MIL-STD-882E and familiarity with the range safety requirements in AFSPCMAN 91-710.
