Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently looking for a Materials amp; Processes Design Engineer to work in our Kennedy Space Center, FL location.
Description:
This design engineering position is a technical expert in the materials and processes associated with booster assembly. The primary functions are design support for processing located at the Booster Fabrication Facility (BFF) and Hangar AF at KSC in Florida with focus on production and resolution of production issues. They are also the principle investigator and contributor for test efforts involving materials and processes associated with booster assembly (thermal protection systems, coatings, adhesives, sealants, grease, etc.) including troubleshooting and problem resolution including resolution of material obsolescence issues and evaluation of replacements and recommended design/material changes to address legacy production challenges.
Responsibilities:
* Define and manage requirements for booster assembly materials and processes
* Define test objectives, author engineering test plans, prepare test reports, and provide oversight for test activities
* Development, qualification, execution, and on-going support of new test specimens and methods as dictated by program needs
* Provide technical design and production support to KSC operations located at the BFF and Hangar AF (focus on production and resolution of issues)
* Provide MRB support and disposition as needed to maintain production or testing schedule and ensure compliance with test requirements
Qualification
Preferred Requirement 39;s:
* Technical knowledge in either coatings, adhesives, thermal protection systems, or refurbishment
* Familiarity with material obsolescence and vendor process change evaluation and qualification
* Knowledge of M amp;P engineering design, R amp;D, analysis, test, and manufacturing processes
* Previous team leadership experience, and hands-on design and/or analysis
* Experience with NASA, commercial and strategic programs and configuration management requirements
* Rocket motor assembly and instrumentation
* Knowledge of the assembly, production, and testing of launch vehicles
* Hands-on experience with production processing or laboratory testing
* Demonstrated team leadership skills
* Travel expectation of 1% ndash; 5%, with primary location at KSC, Florida
