Job Description

Macy's, Inc is expanding our Marketing Data Science team to further grow our data science capabilities in support of our mission to be a data - led, customer centric company. This team will focus on supporting marketing media optimization, and enterprise-wide personalization initiatives using advanced analytics, and ensuring proper planning, testing, and industrialization of predictive models. As a leader of this team, the Senior Director of Marketing Data Science will help lead the charge to execute on our vision to build profitable customer relationships by embedding data & analytics at the heart of everything marketing does.

Overview:

The Senior Director, Marketing Data Science is responsible for leading marketing data science and analytics to effectively execute on priority use cases for Macys marketing. The Senior Director will drive analytics and algorithm development for use cases, integration with media activation and optimization channels. The Senior Director will lead and build a team of Data Scientists and closely partner with Media, Customer Strategy, Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA), Product Management (PdM), and Technology teams. Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Oversee the planning, development and execution of marketing data science programs through:

* Establishing strategy, roadmap, execution, and measurement plans.

* Deploying best-in-class advanced analytics (e.g., ML, AI, NLP, descriptive analytics) and ensure scalability and reusability of codebase and models while establishing standardized enterprise methodologies.

* Driving use case execution, coordinating closely with Customer Strategy, and Marketing media teams on priority use cases identified. Set analytical methodologies for critical insights.

* Instituting quality control and ethical guidelines for algorithms, code, and outputs.

* Outlining measurement plans for comprehensive, multichannel marketing programs and campaigns.

* Defining a set of key metrics that embodies the underlying drivers of the business.

* Identifying and enhancing data collection and analysis processes, and quantitative models.

* Uncovering new analytical models, tools and applications that can add incremental value to the organization.

* Defining the team's support model for different marketing stakeholders to ensure enough support of analytics needs.

* Creating and socializing the mission, vision and values of the analytics team.

* Ensuring data and insights are communicated effectively in a way that is tailored and contextualized to the target audience.

* Working with business unit leaders, IT and outside vendors to determine the appropriate sources of data (internal & external), and define requirements and manage contracts.

* Acting as a data sense-maker for stakeholders, helping them to make sense of disparate data sources and inconsistent conclusions.

* Contributing to cross-functional data teams and help manage data acquisition, management and governance processes.

* Managing the planning, evaluation and selection of analytics tools and software.

* Developing an understanding of the ROI of marketing analytics.

* Identifying, hiring and developing relevant analytical talent.

Leadership:

* Partner closely with Business Owners, Product Management, and Technology to drive adoption, as well as provide direct analytical support where needed.
* Balance both leading a team and engage directly with the work needed to accomplish the priority use cases.

* Coach and develop direct reports as they build strategies and roadmaps.

* Create and foster career development and growth paths for team members in alignment with company and personal objectives.

* Assist direct reports with ongoing prioritization and resource allocation to ensure that the crucial business initiatives are delivered.

* Provide guidance on recruitment and career pathing for analytics resources.

* Balance team resourcing and talent management.

* Demonstrate Macys leadership commitments of promoting diversity and inclusion, encouraging growth, creating connection and driving performance.

Key Performance Indicators:

* Development, Integration, and Deployment of algorithms and methodologies for analytics use cases in support of marketing media optimization and personalization initiatives.
* Additional metrics dependent upon prioritized use cases supported (e.g., lift, customer acquisition, retention, and loyalty etc.).

* Annualized value to business vs. expense.

Qualifications:

Education/ Experience:

* BA or BS Degree required; Masters or PhD in math, statistics, computer science, or related discipline highly preferred.

* Data scientist with over 10+ years of experience specifically in the retail marketing function.

* 5+ years of leading & managing a team of data scientists building models to optimize customer journey across marketing and E-Commerce touchpoints.

* Experience working in Customer Data Platforms (CDPs) for model development/execution/orchestration.

* Proven experience in customer data analytics to understand customer behaviors, and developing plan of action to improve customer experience.

* Fluent in complex algorithms and analytics methodologies across multiple platforms and languages.

* Analytics expert with experience in delivering robust analytics use cases across business units with experience in cross-functional collaboration.

* Community builder who can foster a data and analytics culture and support data-driven thinking and discussions.

* Customer-centric and experienced with successful cross-functional collaboration.

Communication Skills:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Mathematical Skills:

* Basic math functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division skills.

Reasoning Ability:

* Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Physical Demands:

* This position involves regular walking, standing, sitting for extended periods of time, hearing, and talking.

* May occasionally involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.

* May involve close vision, color vision, depth perception, focus adjustment, and viewing computer monitor for extended periods of time.

* Involves manual dexterity for using keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.

* May involve moving or lifting items under 10 pounds.
