Manager, Application Development

If so, Guardian Life InsuranceCompany is actively seeking a proactive, creative Technical Lead who will beresponsible for architectural design and implementation of Guardiansnext-generation web self-service platforms (based in React/Springboot Java) toreplace its existing legacy portals (in J2EE/ WebSphere Portal). Youll takeownership & accountability for actions and results with a sense of urgencyworking collaboratively with a matrixed team toward common goals. You will:

* Report to the Director,Self-Service Application Development who, in turn, reports to the 2nd VicePresident, Customer Service Technology.
* Design, develop, and deploy high-volume,high-usage self-service web portals for Guardian, utilizing React and Java/J2EEtechnologies.
* Lead team of contractors and/oremployees to deliver software projects that drive the business value forGuardian.
* Collaborate with Technical Teams, TechnicalManager, Project Manager and subject matter experts from the businesses andwork closely with SMEs to understand, plan and implement.
* Ensure compliance with security,privacy, legal, infrastructure, and administrative/corporate processes and policies.
* Ensure project success byreviewing project plans, timelines, estimates, and requirements documentsproviding feedback.
* Lead code reviews and administerpaired programming.
* Lead implementation efforts:infrastructure setup and integrations with other applications, and/or front endopen or licensed software. Recommends better, faster, or smarterimplementations.
* Take a leadership and mentoringrole when working with less experienced staff always raising the bar oftechnical expertise within the organization.
* Partner with stakeholders,educating, negotiating and influencing them on implementation options andrisks.
* Provide unique insight in theanalysis of customer business requirements that may cross multiple functionalareas and/or multiple technical platforms and understand the broad strategicimplications.
* Contribute to creativity ideageneration and may initiate and lead strategic projects that will addsignificant value to the business.
* Contribute to technical strategicplanning for Guardian, proposing new directions and technologies.
* Act independently and as part of ateam to translate business and technical requirements into well-engineered,tested, and deployed applications.
* Jump in and hit the ground runningwith a positive attitude.

You have the following technical skills:

* React 16 and earlier
* Java and J2EE
* Spring / Spring Boot
* JavaScript 5 & 6, HTML 5, CSS 3
* JQuery
* RESTful Web Services, Postman, HTTP (POST/GET/PUT), OAuth, Swagger
* Amazon Web Services
* iBatis/Hibernate

You have:

* 10+ years of relevant experience in delivering web technologies. Must have prior experience leading development of consumer apps.
* BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent; advance degree desirable.
* Experience in design and launching complex business/responsive design applications.
* Strong knowledge of release/build/configuration management practices.
* Strong understanding of software best-practices as it applies to web and business application development with hands on architecture design and development experience required in building large scale applications.
* Demonstrable understanding of object-oriented design/development, functional programming, and service-oriented architecture.
* Ability to prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical and aggressive project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
* Extensive experience in Software Development Life Cycle Management using Kanban, Scrum, or Scaled Agile is required.
* Understanding of complex development issues including security, accessibility, concurrency and cross-browser/device compatibility.
* Experience working in a rapid and agile development environment with frequent deliveries.

Location:

* Work in one of the following locations Holmdel, NJ; New York, NY, Bethlehem, PA with some work from home flexibility
* Up to 10% travel between offices as needed
