These investigations cover specific information required to make suitability and eligibility decisions with respect to both applicants for employment, contractor support positions, and current employees.
Investigations may result in disclosure of serious derogatory information that must be resolved prior to submission of the completed investigation to the government. A high degree of skill, tact and discretion is required to ensure the protection of the subject's legal rights, while obtaining sufficient information necessary to properly evaluate the individual, while at the same time protecting the identity of confidential sources.
* Complete assignments within mandated time constraints, obtaining sufficient investigative coverage for the case type in accordance with the federal investigative standards
* Conduct personal interviews with applicants, their neighbors, coworkers, supervisors, friends, and associates
* Conduct record searches at employers, law enforcement agencies, courthouses, mental health providers, and educational institutions
* Communicate effectively verbally and in writing to o btain and report factual information
* Prepare clear, concise reports of investigation following standardized formats
* Demonstrate an ability to balance and prioritize workloads, understand and properly interpret policies and procedures regarding federal background investigations
* Interact with management, case review officers, and assigners to ensure timeliness and thoroughness of investigations
* May be asked to assist with temporary details (TDYs) to high-need areas, dependent upon workload demands
* Perform additional functions, duties and specific tasks of a similar nature and scope as necessary in order to achieve assigned business objectives
Program Qualifications
* Must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age. Current Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) or active Secret level security clearance based on an SSBI
* A minimum of one-year prior experience conducting background investigations for U.S. Government Agencies utilizing the Federal Investigative Standards (FIS) for one on one personal interviews is required
* Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is required; relevant experience can be substituted for the required education on the basis of one calendar year of experience for one academic year of education
* Fluency in verbal and written English required with second language fluency preferred
* Personal vehicle, valid driver's license, and satisfactory driving record preferred
* Ability to travel overnight away from the incumbent's primary residence up to 50% of the time is preferred
