Job Description

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Hardware Development Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nations core defense/intelligence services and systems in the area of software defined wireless communications in support of our national defense. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:
Electrical design of microprocessor based digital systems. Especially design experience with the following: Latest generation of ARM processors and microcontrollers. DDR memory interface design experience. Knowledge of I2C, SPI, SDIO, and other digital interfaces used by modern processors. Familiarity with schematic capture and layout tools is required. Experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition is highly desired. Analog design, or RF experience is desired, but not required.

* Contributes to electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), interface analysis and definition for the design, integration and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems for major programs and projects containing substantial, complex electrical content

* Substantial contribution to the generation and maintenance of electrical work products (i.e. plans, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customers

* Develops and presents electrical requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management, other organizations, team mates and external customers

* Provides substantial contributions to technical subcontract management that may include SOW development, proposal evaluation, source selection, technical oversight, and subcontractor work product evaluation and acceptance

* Active participant in electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systems

* Evaluates vendor capability to support product development

* Applies a strong understanding of the organizationally defined electrical processes throughout the lifecycle of the program or project

* Participation in the improvement of the electrical organizational processes

* Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle

* Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability

* May supervise lower level employees

* Generally works on diverse range of complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity without appreciable direction

* Generally has regular contact with project leaders and Program Managers and Senior Managers including external customers

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Schematic capture of electrical designs
* Layout of PWB/PCBs
* Designing with modern ARM based microprocessors and microcontrollers
* Digital interfaces: I2C, SPI, SDIO, DDR, CAN, etc.
* Experience with Mentor tool suite for circuit card design, layout, and analysis/simulation desired, but not required
* Familiar with Hyperlynx for high speed digital simulation desired, but not required
* Experienced in design for manufacturability
* Component level electronic design and circuit analysis
* Use of standard electronic design verification test equipment (Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, etc.)
* Coordinate design of embedded systems with software engineers
* Evaluates vendor capability to support product development
* Strong use and understanding of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theories

* Frequently contributes to the development of new theories and methods

* Strong understanding of electrical engineering processes

* Aware of business objective and Engineering role in achieving

* Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

* Strong written and verbal communications skills

* Ability to think creatively

* Ability to multi-task

* Highly skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions

* Ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering design

* Travel may be required

* Grasps and applies new information quickly

* Strong ability to handle more complex problems

* Shows initiative on assignments, exercises strong independent judgment

PREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:

Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Equivalent
