The Reality Labs Technology Engineering team has the responsibility for taking breakthroughs in core technology and delivering them to market at scale. The Technology Engineering Camera Team seeks a Camera Control Algorithm Scientist who has extended experience of leading high-performance camera control algorithm development from concept to production volume ramp in consumer electronics. This is a full-time position based in our Menlo Park office.

Camera Control Algorithm Engineer Responsibilities

* Responsible for all research, design, development, test and qualification of camera control algorithm for Facebook products

* Interact with cross-functional engineering teams (Product management, camera HW engineer, Software Engineers, Electrical Engineering) for camera development and system integration

* Lead on camera control algorithm development, qualification and production bring up, create new photography user experience

* Understand camera hardware and software architectures, optimize the camera control algorithm performance and efficiency

* Work with camera hardware team to develop camera control algorithm (e.g. AF/OIS), define the factory calibration procedure, test/validation plan

* Driving prototype ideas for proof of concept and demonstration purposes

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelors degree in Imaging Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field/experience

* Experience coding in MATLAB or Python or Objective C or Swift or Java or C++ or C

* 3+ years of experience in camera control algorithm development over the full product life cycle ranging from product definition to NPI and ramp

* In-depth knowledge of camera module structure, e.g. Lens, Sensor, Actuator (AF/OIS), Gyro/IMU, and best practices with good understanding of image quality fundamentals and their system drivers

* Experience in driving algorithm development from prototype to real-time deployment

* Experience in driving the optimization of camera hardware, firmware, and software system integration

* Working knowledge of camera module manufacturing process

* Experience with data analysis using JMP, MATLAB, or other related software

Preferred Qualifications

* Ph.D. in Imaging Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics

* Experience with full image ISP pipeline

* Experience with Camera algorithm development in some of the following imaging algorithms: Auto Focus, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), Auto-exposure, Auto white balance

* Experience with Standard imaging interfaces and protocols in the typical consumer platform

* Knowledge/experience in camera actuator working principle and characterization methodology

* Knowledge/experience in module mechanical design and basic tolerance analysis

* Knowledge/experience in quality evaluation methodology (test algorithm, chart, lab setup) and quality metric

* Knowledge/experience in machine learning and AI algorithms

* Experience with latest generation mobile and consumer electronics chipset architectures
