Research Scientist, Real-Time DSP for Hearing Correction

Facebook Reality Labs Research has embarked on an ambitious mission to build the next computing platform in augmented and virtual reality systems. Our goals are to eliminate distance, make people more productive, replace physical objects, and give people the tools to feel more connected anytime and anywhere. We believe that a key component of this mission is to improve and enhance human hearing. We are looking for an innovative Research Scientist to join our growing interdisciplinary team, working to solve challenging problems at the intersection of hearing, acoustics, mechanical design, auditory perception, spatial audio and signal processing. In this role, you will focus on developing Real-Time DSP for Hearing Correction algorithms to advance the research in AR/VR technology. The successful candidate will have strong technical skills and experience in any of hearing correction, real time signal processing, audiology, and hearing aid technology (e.g., dynamic range compression, speech enhancement, and noise suppression).

Research Scientist, Real-Time DSP for Hearing Correction Responsibilities

* Develop new techniques to enhance real-world acoustic signals, tune and validate these systems.

* Perform basic research to discover ways to redefining hearing correction and enhancement applications.

* Collaborate closely with a team of engineers to quickly prototype and create hearing correction end-to-end systems.

* Communicate advancements and technology through real-time, live demonstrations.

* Serve as a resident expert in DSP dynamic range compression, working closely with other scientists in spatial audio, room acoustics, microphone arrays, and signal processing.

* Understand and stay up-to-date on the latest research literature.

Minimum Qualifications

* PhD in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics, Computer Science, Hearing science or similar or acquired skills at the similar level.

* Demonstrated experience in auditory signal processing.

* Demonstrated experience with hearable devices, or hearing correction and enhancement.

Preferred Qualifications

* 5+ years experience working with hearable devices, hearing correction, or speech enhancement.

* 5+ years experience evaluating and developing algorithms for hearing correction or enhancement technology.

* Experience in human auditory perception.

* Experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques.

* Proven track record in hearing science, signal processing, microphone array processing or machine learning.

* Proven track record in in programming dynamic range compression, speech enhancement, and/or noise suppression on embedded systems.
