Systems Engineer Intern, Virtualization

Job Description

In Enterprise Engineering, our customers are Facebooks employees, and we support the critical systems they rely on to keep the business growing and information safe. We use a combination of open source and off-the-shelf technologies, plus many of the tools developed to run facebook.com. You will be responsible for growing the internal virtualization environment by solving configuration, automation, and infrastructure problems at scale.

Systems Engineer Intern, Virtualization Responsibilities

* Build, scale, and secure Facebooks corporate infrastructure, focusing specifically on the internal virtualization environment (VMware)

* Combine open-source and commercial technologies to build services that will have an impact on the business

* Work in a heterogeneous environment containing diverse operating systems and applications, and make them work well together

* Apply modern engineering methodologies such as infrastructure as code, scripting, automation, and software-defined storage to scale Facebook's rapidly growing Enterprise infrastructure

* Find ways to leverage the scale and complexity of the larger facebook.com infrastructure to solve problems for Enterprise customers

* Produce systems that are scalable, automated, and well-documented, and train others to take on operations

Minimum Qualifications

* Is currently in the process of obtaining, a BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline

* Familiarity with working in a Linux environment

* Experience with at least one of the following languages: Python, PowerShell, Go, Ruby, Bash

Preferred Qualifications

* Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship/co-op

* Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
