Job Description

Facebook is looking for an experienced Privacy and Data Policy Manager to join the team that supports our Central Product Services organization, which includes Facebooks internal research and data science initiatives. In this role, you'll play a key role in shaping the company's approach to privacy and data ethics in research and data science work that supports the development of products used by over 2 billion people around the world. As our Privacy and Data Policy Manager, youll work closely with data scientists, product managers, engineers, and cross-functional partners across the company to incorporate privacy and data ethics considerations into key internal research and data science projects and help shape Facebook's privacy vision. You'll serve as a subject matter expert for Facebook's global policy organization on research and data science initiatives, partner with internal and external stakeholders to develop frameworks to guide decision making, and work with other policy teams to evaluate and respond to legislative and regulatory developments around privacy. The ideal candidate for this role is a strong communicator and creative problem solver who is able to work independently and switch easily between detailed work and high-level strategic thinking. This candidate will be deeply familiar with privacy and data ethics issues in the research and data science space, have a meaningful understanding of key policy and academic stakeholders and their perspectives on those issues, and be able to use this understanding to drive sound decision making at Facebook and promote meaningful improvements across our industry. Privacy & Data Policy Manager, Central Product Services (Research) Responsibilities

* Evaluate and provide guidance on the privacy implications of new internal research and data science initiatives, including by developing scalable decision frameworks

* Partner with data scientists, product managers, engineers, lawyers and others to help interdisciplinary teams simultaneously identify and address policy, legal, engineering, user interface, business, marketing and other privacy challenges

* Partner with external stakeholders to demonstrate Facebooks commitment to privacy in its research and data science work

* Serve as an effective voice for Facebook on privacy issues, including at external meetings and conferences

* Analyze global legislative and regulatory proposals concerning privacy, data security, and other technology issues

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree

* 6+ years of experience with privacy, data, or technology policy issues (4+ years with advanced degree in relevant field)

* Experience with privacy or data ethics in the research or data science context

* Experience counseling clients or partners on privacy and data policy issues and managing multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

* PhD or MA in Information, Data Science, or equivalent field

* Experience working directly with senior leadership to support decision-making

* Understanding of mobile and Internet technologies and how data is processed to support them

* Comfortable working with privacy legislative frameworks

* Experience with complex policy analysis

* Experience planning and executing cross-functional initiatives
