Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer at Facebook Reality Labs, you will take a critical role in developing AR Systems. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through mechanical design, analytical and optical modeling, as well as fast iterative prototyping. A wide range of approaches will be explored combining mechanical, optical, electrical, firmware, and software techniques. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept into a prototype and then mature the design to a high-volume consumer product solution. We are looking for someone with a productive mindset who can apply their mechanical engineering expertise to solve problems in creative, insightful ways. Our ideal candidate has a strong fundamental engineering background, prototyping skills, 3D CAD capability, and experience designing and manufacturing consumer technology products.

Mechanical Engineer Responsibilities

* Lead or contribute to mechanical solutions as part of a team

* Model, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems

* Work across the full product development cycle, from concept inception to shipping product

* Partner with vendors worldwide

* Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solving complex mechanical problems

Minimum Qualifications

* BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

* 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design

* Experience in tolerance analysis and metrology techniques on opto-mechanical systems

* Expertise in 3D design modeling (NX, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) and physical prototyping

* Experience applying GD&T techniques and knowledge of associated metrology approaches

* Industrial level of working knowledge in material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, glass, PCBA, flex circuit, etc.

* Testing and analysis experience (FEA, Simulation, Design of Experiments, Ray Tracing, etc.)

* Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing techniques (stamping, machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

* 7+ years of product design and development experience of handheld and/or wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing, including full systems ownership

* Experience with optics component mounting, interfaces, and adhesive bonding as well as advanced imaging and camera systems

* Cross functional work experience with optical designers and software tools (CodeV, Zemax, etc.)

* Experience designing handheld and wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing

* Experience with products requiring cosmetic surface treatments and interfacing with industrial design teams
