Facebook designs, develops, and builds all its own AR/VR and Portal HW products. The Strategic Sourcing team is responsible for spends from raw materials, to the individual components on a board, to the final consumer end product. The team owns the commercial growth strategy, new technology enablement, and business relationships with various suppliers and manufacturing partners. The sourcing team moves fast and leverages key partnerships to drive technical innovation, high quality standards and cost-savings via a customized supply chain. Facebook is seeking a Strategic Sourcing Technical Lead for Optics that creates disruptive value by influencing the product definitions, designs, and specifications for our organization, and manufacturing of our AR/VR and Portal hardware. In this role, you will be responsible for technical sourcing across our ecosystem, enabling the operational and technical performance of our technology and supplier base. Together with your team and numerous internal partners, you will play a critical role in introducing disruptive technologies, and to scale those technologies in mass production with the right supply chain partners.

Strategic Sourcing Technical Lead - Optics Responsibilities

* Support and influence HWD engineering team in new technology scoping effort with potential optical/materials/equipment partners

* In conjunction with sourcing managers and Devices HWD engineering team, support and influence new technology exploration, create Technology Roadmap to align with Product Roadmaps, and secure cross-functional alignment accordingly

* Find and evaluate new optical technology and materials that enables MP scalability with most optimum Total Cost of Ownership

* Assess and assist in formulating capex and unit cost modeling for emerging technologies

* In conjunction with sourcing manager, own Supplier Plan of Record (SPOR) and ensure alignment with cross-functional stakeholders

* Assist Sourcing Managers with identifying industrial partners for high volume manufacturing of new technologies (materials, process, equipment, suppliers, testers, etc.)

* Assess vendor capabilities to take on new, disruptive, technologies and manufacturing processes

* Deep dive on manufacturing processes to understand process capability and analyze implications to performance KPI, yields, UPH, capex impact

* Use lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and cost from manufacturing operation at vendor site

* Perform Value Engineering (second source qualification, alternate materials/process evaluation/qualification, and other cost reduction initiative at the material/manufacturing level)

* In conjunction with cross-functional stakeholders, support and influence technology transfer to scalable manufacturing partners from R&D/development/prototype lines

* Lead technical operations at vendors and coordinate and guide internal stakeholders engagement with vendors

* Ability to travel 25%

Minimum Qualifications

* 10+ years of designing and/or manufacturing experience in optics, thin films, coating, metrology field

* M.S. Engineering degree in Optics or Physics

* Experience introducing multiple new optics related technologies into the MP

* Experience driving cross functional projects

* Familiar with optical device design, development, prototyping

* Experience with optical device characterization and optimizations

* Experience and knowledge of optical requirement definition, characterization, and performance optimization

* Experience thinking strategically to support ideology with facts and data

* Experience articulating points of view with executive management but execute plans when directed

Preferred Qualifications

* Masters or PhD degree

* Experience moving seamlessly from strategy to execution and deliver tangible results

* Experience influencing, negotiate, build consensus and make key strategic technology decisions

* Experience working across all layers of the organization, particularly with cross-functional teams, in a fast-paced environment
