Position Description

Under the direction of the VP Medical Management, the Manager - Quality Assurance oversees all operations and projects of the Quality Assurance and Coding Department. In this role, the Manager is responsible for daily operations, development and operational implementation of systems, processes, protocols and process improvement, and workflow to ensure compliant, efficient and fiscally responsible departmental operations while meeting regulatory guidelines for quality and compliance as well as the goals of USMM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Monitors departmental performance in relation to established goals and standards as well as development, implementation, and adherence of new policies and procedures as indicated to continually improve operational efficiencies and quality of the services provided
* Develops, implements, and assures adherence of new policies and procedures as needed to meet regulatory requirements for coding compliance
* Follows personnel policies and procedures in conjunction with hiring, training, discipline, discharge and evaluation QA and Coding department staff
* Monitors work flow, schedules, and staffing to ensure effective use of personnel
* Oversees the overall management of the department
* Plans, implements, and monitors process improvement initiatives while meeting organizational and departmental mission and goals
* Works collaboratively to solve problems, to improve processes, and to integrate services within the department and with other departments
* Identifies issues and problems and areas requiring improvement or resolutions
* Providing in-service training for coding, compliance to physicians, clinical staff, and management as needed
* Provides in-service training for coding, compliance, and any other training needs
* Keeps VP apprised of issues, problems, and challenges facing the QA and Coding department
* Assists VP with special projects as needed
* Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills and Experience

* Bachelors Degree or equivalent
* Coding certificate from college level coding program (or equivalent) and CPC, CCS-P
* Five or more years of management experience in healthcare
* Previous management experience in coding and/or billing environment
* One year of professional coding experience
