Job Summary:

Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) brings together the Companys best-in-class product, technology, and commercialization teams together into one global organization. DMED is responsible for the P&L management and all distribution, network and engineering operations, sales, advertising, data, and certain key technology functions worldwide for the Company's content engines. DMED also manages operations of the Company's streaming services including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+ HotStar; and domestic broadcast and cable television networks.

DMED Technology creates products, platforms, and innovations for the DMED Segment and the Walt Disney Company by driving the strategic development and use of technology, building scalable systems and products to empower our businesses and engage consumers. As part of the Disney Media and Entertainment Distributions (DMED) technology team, youll be joining a group of passionate, dedicated technologists solving a range of interesting problems in innovative ways in an exciting and dynamic industry. We are looking for high-performing and motivated individuals who challenge the status quo and drive software innovation!

Our team is seeking an experienced Manager, Software Engineering to join our team and manage the delivery of multiple projects from design to release while managing the projects goals and contributing to the product strategy. The perfect candidate not only has thorough knowledge and technical expertise to provide technical leadership on major projects, but also has a passion for managing, mentoring, and developing a team of junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

* Manage and grow a team of software engineers working on highly complex and visible initiatives across the organization
* Define, architect, and build high-quality software solutions while evangelizing technologies, solutions, and best practices
* Lead multiple projects utilizing an Agile methodology (Scrum) in a continuous delivery environment Be both an effective people manager and a highly technical, hands-on coder
* Collaborate with product management teams to ensure we're building the best products.
* Lead technical discussions, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence
* Create reference implementations (code) for the purpose of mentoring and leading more junior staff (when required). Develop and mentor teams to write elegant code using effective automated unit tests
* Contribute new ideas to a larger community of high-caliber professionals
* Balance resources, requirements, and complexity
* Manage the deployment of applications to Dev, QA, Production environments
* All other duties as assigned by Leadership

Basic Qualifications:

* 2 years of experience leading software engineering teams (mentoring junior engineers, setting technical direction, etc.)
* Have a track record of delivering successful, innovative solutions
* Experience in Agile software development
* Experience architecting enterprise applications and databases that utilize load balancing, horizontal scalability, high availability, containers, and server-less technologies
* Track record of designing and developing cloud-native applications on AWS (EC2, EKS, Lambda,
* API Gateway, Redis/Elasticache, SNS, SQS, Kafka, Step Functions)

Preferred Qualifications:

* Familiarity with the entertainment/music industry is a plus
* Demonstrated experience in the areas such as Cloud Native Design Patterns, Microservices, or
* API Strategy
* Demonstrated ability to recruit and manage technical teams, including performance management.
* Passionate about technology and the possibilities that it opens up for users of our systems

* Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
* Strong oral and written communication skills

Required Education

* BS in Computer Science or related field with 8+ years of experience.
