Employee Testing Laboratory Technician

Job Description
Responsibilities
You will be part of a team critical to the accurate, precise, efficient, and fast turnaround of test results. The technician will support the laboratory in execution of the employee testing program. Testing personnel perform the following procedures and processes, under the supervision of the Supervisor and Manager:
1. Accessioning employee samples.
2. Extraction of DNA or RNA from swabs samples using extraction techniques and instruments.
3. PCR amplification of DNA fragments from the extracted swab.
4. Pharmacogenomic genotyping using TaqMan-based qPCR assays and reagents
5. Other tasks as required.
Testing Personnel are also responsible for the following:
1. Adhering to the laboratorys standard operating procedures for specimen handling and processing, laboratory testing, data analyses, and test record maintenance.
2. Performing proficiency testing on samples or as part of internal proficiency testing.
3. Adhering to the laboratorys quality policies, safety policies, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance policies.
4. Recognizing problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correcting the problem or notifying the appropriate supervisor.
Qualifications
Personnel performing high complexity testing must possess, at a minimum, an associate degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. Experience in the above procedures and processes is preferred.
