How will you make an impact?

The Operations Engineer II will be part of a diverse team responsible for the successful introduction of new products into the factory and field. They will contribute to the ongoing improvement of products and the processes used for manufacturing and service. This role collaborates closely with the Product Lifecyle Management, Product Marketing, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, and Global Technical Support groups to ensure the development of sustainable products according to the latest quality standards, at lowest COGS, and in line with best practices. Throughout the lifecycle of our products, the Operations Engineering team implements quality, cost, and process improvements to increase customer satisfaction.

What will you do?

* Define requirements for manufacturability, serviceability and reliability, software, test and diagnostics (TAD) protocols
* Work closely with R&D to drive service and factory requirements in all phases of the Product Management Process (PMP)
* Drives Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on behalf of operations for all new products
* Defines Bill of Materials (BOM) structure for new product development
* Participates with R&D in initial product builds and validation
* Defines and creates test, assembly, installation and service procedures for factory and field
* Defines and integrates factory and service test equipment
* Creates manufacturing introduction plan and service introduction plan
* Trains Manufacturing, Factory Support and Service personnel in new product build, test, install and repair procedures
* Defines Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for new product introduction
* Executes advanced troubleshooting in factory or field service
* Responsible for engineering change orders to support factory and service as needed
* Supports field service engineers with first installs and upgrades of newly introduced systems and modules to ensure proper working order. This may require travel to various customer locations worldwide to support installations and upgrades
* Cultivates positive working relationships with Product Lifecycle Management, Factory Support Engineering, Field Service, GTS, Applications, R&D and Operations personnel
* Resolves factory or field escalations as needed by interacting with the appropriate functional groups to achieve resolution
* Utilizes Thermo Fisher Scientifics Practical Process Improvement (PPI) tools to lead or facilitate productivity, scrap reduction, process improvement, and cost improvement projects
* Contributes to EFA Operations Engineering strategy

How will you get here?

Education

University degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a combination of technical education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.

Experience

* 3+ years of experience in high-tech industry environment in service, development, or manufacturing
* Capable of PCB design from concept to manufacturing
* Experience developing and maintaining electronic fixtures to qualify PCBAs
* Able to troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical systems using electrical schematics, DVM, oscilloscopes, function generators and spectrum analyzers
* Experience with FMEA, Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and Design of Experiments
* Demonstrated experience managing new product introduction and cross-functional projects
* Able to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of cross-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites without damaging relationships
* Experience using Product Document Management systems including SolidWorks PDM Vault and Siemens Teamcenter
* Experience in bringing technology solutions to improving the quality, efficiency, and cost of manufacturing and service
* Experience in semiconductor capital equipment manufacturing and/or service
* Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required
* Fluent in English (verbal and in writing)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively and impactfully report to multiple levels of the organization
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Visio, etc.) to analyze, organize, and communicate data/information throughout the organization in a clear and concise manner

* Conduct system level integration for highly-integrated semiconductor capital equipment tools
* Interface directly with manufacturing for product documentation and vendor interactions that support the
* production and deployment of new or next-generation systems designs
* Understanding and experience with low level analog signal processing
* Knowledge of key technologies including vacuum, motion control, process automation, optics, and material selection
* Knowledge of applications in the field of Electrical Failure Analysis (EFA)
