The Office of the CTO for Microsoft is chartered with understanding, shaping, and accelerating technologies and their impact on Microsoft, industry, and society in order to empower every person and every organization to achieve more. Whether it is providing insights company-wide, giving meaning to an AI First company, or helping to drive the impact of Intelligent Cloud/ Intelligent Edge Computing, the Office of the CTO is down in the trenches, working with our engineering, field, and strategy teams across the company. We gather information, synthesize best practices, drive cross-company workstreams, support cross-industry partnerships and engage in activities that inform the CTO and the SLT, and move the needle on Microsoft's strategic and technical direction.

The deputy office is focused on Scale H2 Technologies and includes highly technical, but cross-functional and highly independent leaders who accelerate leading-edge technology to scalable, rapidly growing solutions. This team works across the company by connecting people, resources, and ideas across organizations and disciplinary boundaries. We are the glue between the customer need + strategy + technical execution. We are the 1+1 >2.

Advanced Technology Advisor is an experienced technologist across hardware, software, networking, possessing scientific acumen, operations, and a passion for products. You must have hands-on experience and abilities to scale up, down and across the stack, understand product drivers, and come up to speed rapidly on new tech. In other words, you are the tech savant, that can learn fast, find the big picture and build technical direction through hands-on prototypes.

* Hands-on with cutting-edge technologies, jump-in directly into code, prototype, connect and improve on architectural components of solutions.
* Can understand and map technical architecture, hold their own with product teams.
* Formulate Point of View, articulate and write down papers and proposals that outline recommendations.
* Has strong product acumen, usability research, and user experience background.
* Can wade through and understand deep technical concepts, rationalize and align them across organizations.
* Strategic thinker, with a thorough understanding of market trends, a passion for deep technical and market analysis, and a capable writer ready to present to C-Suite leaders.
* Work with Technical Teams, Business Development, Corporate Development leaders and M12, to align the organization and accelerate scalability of growth businesses.
* Technically proficient in AI/ML, Edge devices, Robotics, Autonomy, Networks, Front-end scalability, but most importantly fast hands-on experience building and shipping rapidly scaled products.
* Has a proven track record working on innovative technologies, contributing to important strategic technical projects.
* Strong operational program manager that leaves no stone unturned, but can communicate at the appropriate level of abstraction, a self-starter who can work in ambiguous environments, keeping the shared goals in mind.

Required

* 10+ years of experience in progressively senior Technical/Engineering/ CTO role with hands-on experience across startups and large companies
* Experience leading technical projects, shipping software, troubleshooting technical issues

* Founder experience
* Be respected by product and technical teams
* Excellent communicator and EQ
* Be able to lead through influence, work across teams at scale, and feel confident engaging with executives
* Artificial Intelligence, 5G, Intelligent Edge, and IoT expertise
* Cloud development at scale: Azure or similar
* Ph.D. or MS degree in Computer Science
