Job Description
The Azure Global Special Capabilities, Infrastructure and Innovation (ASCII) team seeks a team-oriented engineer who enjoys both internal collaboration and working with external customers & partners to embrace and solve new technology challenges. As a Senior Software Engineer on the ASCII team focusing on Fully Homomorphic Encryption, you will work in an agile environment that values creativity, knowledge sharing, and employee growth. In this role, you will have substantial opportunity to shape technical direction, make a tangible and positive impact, and obtain unique and valuable experience across an array of technologies. Specifically, you will guide and lead the maturation of Homographic Encryption technology as a differentiating capability for the Azure cloud. By working with industry leaders and government agencies, you will drive a fundamentally new distributed computing paradigm through advances in Homomorphic Encryption-specific hardware, library and API development and cloud workload optimization.
  * Work closely with Microsoft Research to develop extensions for and guide hardware acceleration of the SEAL Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) Library.
  * Experiment, rapidly prototype, and evaluate FHE-specific hardware technology for their use in the Azure cloud environment.
  * Craft software and technical solutions that are well-architected, documented, and designed with empathy and understanding for end users.
  * Design and implement new FHE offerings on our platform for use by our global customer-base.
  * Communicate, share ideas, and collaboratively work with partner teams, PMs, and leads.
  * Stay abreast and informed of the latest technologies and share your findings and insights about their utility and potential for our technical development efforts. 
Required Qualifications: 
  * 1 year+ peer-reviewed publication record and/or product development history with FHE.
  * 1 year+ hands-on experience with FHE algorithms like BGV, BFV, and CKKS etc.
  * 1 year+ hands-on experience with FHE-specific operations such as key switching, slot rotation/permutation and bootstrapping.
  * Ability and flexibility to learn and adapt to a spectrum of services and platform capabilities that make up Azure.
Desired Qualifications: 
  * 2 years of post-undergraduate experience and/or Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
  * 1 year+ experience with usage, implementation, and optimization of Microsoft's SEAL FHE library.
  * Documented proficiency in group theory, lattice-based cryptography, computer arithmetic, and high-performance computing.
  * 1 year+ experience with privacy-preserving AI/ML techniques such as secure multiparty computation and knowledge of compute workloads that benefit from accelerated FHE.
  * Knowledge of cryptography hardware implementations, e.g. for RSA, and libraries such as OpenSSL. 
  * Knowledge of modern ultra-high scale hardware development practices and tools with specific proficiency in deep submicron CMOS.
  * Knowledge of trusted execution environments (TEE), e.g., Intel SGX.
  * Ability to design and architect solutions on top of cloud infrastructure.
  * The candidate should be equally comfortable interacting with anyone: from a very technical developer to a business-focused executive. 
  * Strong analytical and strategic capabilities, with excellent written and presentation skills
  * Experience with Government-focused and/or funded projects and experience with Government customers (e.g., DARPA).
