Virtual Internship

Participation in the Research Internship Program requires that you are physically located in the United States or Canada for the duration of the internship.

Research Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers. Our researchers and engineers pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.

The AI Compiler group in the Machine Learning Research Area is on a mission to develop new AI techniques and compiler optimizations for AI and ML workloads. Building a state-of-the-art compiler for AI is the key to making AI more cost-effective, lowering the carbon footprint of AI, and moving AI from the cloud to the edge.

We are looking for exceptional students with solid software skills to build and showcase several research projects. While most research projects are designed to result in a publication, these projects focus on creating real world impact for developers utilizing AI and ML in their work streams. From building out frameworks to enabling best in class inference on the edge, these projects deliver tangible impact to Microsoft and external partners in the ML space.

Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's best researchers, interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, students are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer.

* Collaborate with researchers and research engineers to build packages and systems that use the AI Compiler to enable new or enhance existing computational workloads
* Integrate with frameworks and/or existing solutions to provide new capabilities in the ML space across a variety of hardware targets
* Create solutions utilizing the Ai compiler to showcase exciting new scenarios or measurably push state of the art performance in a relevant area

In addition to the qualifications below, you'll need to submit a minimum of two reference letters for this position. Required Qualifications

Must be slated to be or currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program in Computer Science or a related STEM field in United States or Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

* Familiarity with ML/AI frameworks, or,
* Experience with microcontrollers and/or Maker tools
