Director, Above Brand is responsible for leading a consistent, consolidated and strategic approach across U.S. Public Affairs with the ultimate goal of driving AbbVies narrative in the U.S. and realizing the Public Affairs team vision. The Director must have the ability of strategically defining priorities, partnering across the team, becoming an advocate for the teams vision, and establishing a roadmap to execute against.

The Director leads one team and reports to the Head, U.S. Public Affairs.

Core Job Responsibilities

* Leads and oversees the development and execution of a strategic roadmap, including priorities across therapeutic areas (TAs) and critical competencies and tactics that will realize the teams vision.
* Develops and oversees a content strategy and calendar for AbbVie in the U.S., including all therapeutic areas, and partners with TAs and internal and external agencies on its execution.
* Provides consistency, coordination and strategic insight into AbbVies content distribution strategy and investment in the U.S. as a part of broader PESO (paid, earned, shared, owned) programs being executed at a TA level.
* Partners with Corporate Responsibility, Brand and Communications teams, including social media, digital, corporate responsibility, corporate communications, etc. to ensure full alignment and a smart use of resources and budget.
* Partners with market analytics and business technology solutions to increase the use and understanding of analytics across the team, to ensure analytics inform strategic and tactical decisions, and to develop robust measurement models for Public Affairs work.
* Oversees the content development for and across AbbVie social media and digital channels in the U.S., and evaluates AbbVie owned channels strategy on an ongoing basis to explore new opportunities.
* Anticipates future trends, ensures the Public Affairs team is constantly exposed to innovative, new ideas, and leads the discussion in regards to the implementation of those new ideas.
* Leads strategic planning for U.S. Public Affairs, including team meetings, annual plan and roadmap, team building and development, relationship with agencies, and internal and external networking to socialize the teams vision and work.
* Partners with Corporate Communications and business functions to align on approach and execution around key environmental issues that are impacting or may impact the business going forward.
* Represents AbbVies point of view and interests at industry forums and organizations
* Oversees the development of external visibility plans for U.S. Area senior leaders that can contribute to further driving AbbVies narrative in the U.S. across select external audiences.
* Partners with Compliance and Legal to develop and implement governance, processes and procedures specific to Public Affairs work that will help advance the teams work and vision.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Requirements:

* Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or Equivalent.
* 12-15 years of public affairs experience
* Strategic mindset and vision along with knowledge of emerging communications trends and technologies.
* Strong people management skills and ability to drive action and results.
* Deep understanding of the healthcare system, environmental issues and biopharmaceutical industry and business.
* Established track record building productive relationships and partnerships across internal and external teams.
* Able to drive higher performance, is clear and courageous and can manage difficult conversations though direct and constructive dialogue
* Learns fast, grasps the 'essence' and can change course quickly where indicated; raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo; creates a learning and innovative environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement
* A track record of innovation, challenging the status quo and taking action to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
