The HSE Specialist is responsible for development, implementation and audit of the plant's industrial hygiene program. The HSE Specialist advises plant management of audit findings and makes recommendations for improvement of procedures, practices and activities which have the potential to adversely affect employee health and well-being. The HSE Specialist performs the primary thinking encompassed by this job description, complies with all Company policies and procedure, and fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing area of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teams.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Maintain personnel monitoring programs in accordance with the requirements established by OSHA Standards 29 CFR 1910.1000 Air Contaminants, 1910.1001 Asbestos, 1910.1017 Vinyl Chloride and 1910.1047 Ethylene Oxide.
* Maintain a complete listing of Industrial Hygiene regulatory standards and provide an interpretation of their application to plant management.
* Provide the plant with procedures, manuals, directives, training and other required information relative to industrial hygiene and safety.
* Coordinate the plant's asbestos abatement activities relative to contractor supervision, air sampling, bulk sampling with microscope, record-keeping and company interface with regulatory agencies.
* Maintain accurate files of all Industrial Hygiene activities.
* Investigate potential health and safety hazards in conjunction with Medical and Environmental departments and make recommendations for corrective action where hazards are identified.
* Conduct new employee and contractor safety orientation.
* Perform safety and industrial hygiene projects as assigned by the Supervisor, Safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* B.S. in OSH or equivalent Safety experience.
* Possess assertive oral and written communication skills.
* Knowledgeable in Federal, State and Company regulations pursuant to Safety, Process Safety Management, and Industrial Hygiene.
