The Director leads employee Safety and Health within the Safety, Health and Environment function and contributes to the overall SHE strategy for US Foods. Gains senior leadership commitment and alignment to employee Safety and Health initiatives. Develops and enhances key employee Safety and Health efforts, including Material Handling Equipment / Dock Safety, Walking / Working Surfaces, Ergonomics, Machine Safety, Lockout Tagout, etc. Works with Facilities Management to identify and help implement building / equipment enhancements and technologies to improve safety outcomes. Works with Operations Excellence to integrate Safety and Health considerations into productivity initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leads the companys employee Safety and Health strategy and ensures its alignment with overall US Foods SHE direction. Advises on adjustments to US Foods SHE strategy as needed.
Gains alignment from senior leadership to pursue and support key employee Safety and Health initiatives that achieve US Foods long-term vision of SHE excellence.
Designs and enables consistent implementation of employee Safety and Health practices and methods in conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines. Seeks out and incorporates new initiatives to improve regulatory compliance over time. Stays abreast of new / amended regulations; adjusts Safety and Health practices and methods accordingly.
Incorporates cultural attributes of leadership and employee ownership into employee Safety and Health initiatives to engrain such practices deep within the organization, with heightened focus on accountability, personal responsibility, and Safety Performance Teams.
Leads and supports the development of practical risk-based programs that, when properly executed, help to ensure improved employee safety outcomes (such as Material Handling Equipment, Ergonomics, Walking / Working Surfaces, etc.). Incorporates sound risk assessment and control techniques, as well as regulatory compliance, into such programs.
Identifies and leads value-add opportunities that go beyond regulatory compliance as appropriate. Partners with Facilities Management and Operations Excellence to integrate employee Safety and Health considerations into building and equipment design and productivity initiatives. Leverages technology support regulatory compliance and improve employee Safety and Health outcomes.
Ensures the development and deployment of sound training content that complements risk-based programs and promotes employee Safety and Health methods and work practices. Serves as the SCLI safety instructor for Warehouse Managers.
Identifies and supports accurate reporting of leading and lagging metrics that gauge current status, inform on long-term progress, and allow for industry comparisons.
Consults with Risk Management employee workers comp claims as needed and Legal on OSHA regulatory interactions.
Models high ethical standards and employee advocacy reinforcing the We Care mindset.

- Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Science, SHE field; Masters preferred.
- One or more professional SHE-related certifications (CSP, CIH, PE) or ability to become certified required.
Related Experience/Requirements:
- A minimum of 8 years of increasingly responsible SHE experience in the manufacturing, distribution and / or food
service industries, with specific expertise in Safety and Industrial Hygiene. Multi-site responsibility required. Experience
with union environments desirable.

- Has excellent written and oral communication skills with a strong ability to influence, negotiate, resolve conflicts, and
facilitate among a diverse group of individuals.
- Possesses effective organizational, project management, and analytical skills and can facilitate sound decision-making.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and to work effectively under pressure with tight timelines. Able to function well
within a fast-paced environment.
- Strategic thinker who understands the overlap between SHE sub-functions and how to synthesize into Transportation
Safety methods and practices. Embraces emerging SHE technologies, and incorporates new SHE concepts and best
practices where needed.
- Knowledge of various SHE federal and state laws and regulations (special focus on DOT) and industry benchmarking
metrics.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Ability to travel up to 30%.
