Engineering Analyst (SPC Generation Support)

Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position will function as part of the SPC Generation Support within Southern Power as part of the Maintenance Support Team and will be responsible for analyzing maintenance and other operational/commercial data. The incumbent will serve as a subject matter expert for Tableau and Power BI.

Primary responsibilities include:

* Create and maintain data visualizations for maintenance, operations, compliance, accounting, and other areas within Southern Power to support business processes.

* Utilize analytics to work with respective groups to turn data into information to drive decisions.

* Look for ways to utilize and implement Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence into Southern Powers maintenance strategy.

* Work with the Gas and Renewable fleet to improve the effective and consistent use of Maximo and its related products

* Provide formal and informal training to end users around work management processes.

* Serve on the Maintenance Operations Review Board (ORB)

* Actively participate in internal and industry user groups to stay abreast of latest technology and methods for data analytics, predictive/prescriptive maintenance, and overall maintenance and reliability trends.

* Establish ongoing relationships and effectively communicate with all levels of plant and corporate employees and management; Vendors; Peer Groups and Subject Matter Experts.

* Assist with the mobile initiatives for the plants.

This position will be located in Birmingham, AL or a Southern Power facility. Overnight travel is required to facilities located in various parts of the United States.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Business, or Data Science Preferred

Experience

* Experience with gas and/or renewable operations and maintenance is preferred.

* Experience in Tableau, PowerBI or other business intelligence software required.

* Project management experience

* Maximo or asset/work management software experience is preferred

* Experience in organizing and managing multiple projects at the same time. Proven ability to plan; ability to discern problems that need immediate attention versus those that allow more time to resolve.

* Proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to share vision and goals.

* Widely recognized as a key contributor in their expertise area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* Detailed understanding of Equipment Reliability Processes in the area of power plant or relevant industry Maintenance, Engineering, Operations; equipment, systems, and processes is required. Experience with Streamlined Reliability Centered Maintenance philosophy.

* Proficiency in Tableau / Power BI

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

* Proficiency in Maximo

* Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external clients

* Machine Learning / Artificial Intelligence knowledge a plus

* Ability to prioritize and organize work to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines

* Excellent project management skills that lead to desired results

* Knowledge of SQL is a plus

* Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills required

* Strong oral and written communications skills required

* Demonstrates assertiveness and the ability to influence others tactfully

* Innovative thinking, looking for new ways to do things to make them better

* A thorough understanding and working knowledge of the Work Management processes and tools is preferred.
