JOB SPECIFICATIONS
The position entails working with a multidisciplinary team as part of a new product development cycle, which includes developing concepts and taking them from initial design and prototyping through commercialization. The candidate will be required to work closely with project engineers, fellow engineers, other cross functional team and suppliers to design and manufacture engineering components. As a Senior Mechanical Development Engineer, you will-
* Deliver best in class performing new DEWALT/Tradesman products
* Utilize the Product Development Milestone processes to develop and deliver technical design in support of New Product Development. Develop and execute plans for project sample builds
* Own technical design responsibility for assigned projects utilizing 2D and 3D design capabilities to deliver technically sound solutions
* Collaborate cross functionally with non-engineering disciplines (Marketing, Sourcing, Manufacturing) to turn design problems into reality, work closely with Marketing to turn Voice-of-the-Customer data into feasible designs
* Assure appropriate documentation is developed and maintained
* Analyze data to reach sound design/business decisions in complex technical situations
* Meet with suppliers, project stakeholders to review designs and alter as needed. Drive the design review
* Perform hands-on concept development and prototyping
* Perform hands-on product testing and data collection
* Manage test programs in conjunction with product development
* Understanding of manufacturing processes molding, casting, turning/milling, powdered metal, stampings, extrusions and forming
* Identify opportunities to reduce cost and reduce design complexity
* Ability to manage projects with global suppliers.
* Some travel required (Domestic & International)
EMPLOYEE SPECIFICATIONS
* Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required
* Self-motivated, creative, goal-oriented and good team player
* At least 3 years of Mechanical Design experience preferred with manufacturing exposure
* Experience in use of 2D and 3D design software (CATIA experience preferred)
* Good experience in using MS Office software (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
* Excellent problem-solving skills & hand on abilities to build prototypes, diagnose problems, and report findings or corrective actions
* Awareness of design for manufacturing, metrology methods, and quality control practices
* Firm understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and 2D drawing best practices
* Strong desire to learn new technologies/processes. Possess an entrepreneurial, ambitious attitude to execute industry-best product features
* Excellent communication skills. Must be able to work with a global team including remote design and manufacturing centers
* Demonstrated leadership aptitude in prior project experience
* Basic knowledge and experience with electro-mechanical design, electronic assemblies, and/or DC circuits is a plus
* Personal or professional familiarity with power tools is a plus
