Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the Flight Systems Team to perform Aero-Thermal environments analysis. This position will be located in Roy, UT and support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. Learn more about the GBSD program here.

What You rsquo;ll Get To Do:

bull;Analyzes, researches, and develops induced environments (aerodynamic loads and shears, acoustics, and heating) during missile fly-out and flight

bull;Tasks may also include supporting design of heat shield and vehicle outer mold line to optimize flight performance as well as analysis of internal flows (e.g. propulsion)

bull;Analyses will be performed utilizing hand calculations, low fidelity tools, and or high fidelity computational fluid dynamics (CFD) packages such as CFD++ or Fluent

bull;When computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analyses are appropriate, critical thinking skills will be required to develop an analysis capturing the appropriate fluid flow phenomenon as well as understanding the results when post processing the solution

bull;Analyses could include sub-sonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flow regimes as well as exo-atmospheric conditions

bull;Due to the complex nature of the systems analyzed, the position requires working closely with multiple engineering disciplines including but not limited to Structural Dynamics, Guidance Navigation and Control Engineering, System Engineering, and Mechanical Design to achieve program objectives in a timely manner

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Qualification

Basic Qualifications:

bull; BS degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) from an accredited university with 2 years related experience; 0 years with Masters

bull;US citizen with ability to obtain DoD Select security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

bull;Active Secret security clearance (or higher)

bull;Experience performing missile computational fluid dynamics analyses including designing to optimize flight performance

bull;2 years of experience using Grid Generation tools and CFD software tools (ANSYS Fluent, CFD++, or similar) to simulate fluid flows and using these tools to design for optimum flow performance
