Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Quality and Safety Nurse in Practice Support will leador participate in nursing practice, quality and safety committees, projects andinitiatives.

* Provide direction and support to short and long-termquality committees and improvement teams.
* Facilitate root cause analysis of safety events withinambulatory care.
* Participate with other MGH departments such as NursingLeadership, Infection Control, Safety, and the MGH Pharmacy to increaseambulatory care division to complete a comprehensive needs assessment
* Work closely with Inpatient areas to analyze &validate Ambulatory support & learning needs.
* Apply a depth of expertise to plan, design & developeducational programs, technology & support systems to achieve desiredobjectives.
* Assume a leadership role to recognize & communicateeducational issues & trends to the Ambulatory nursing group.
* Actively work with the Collaborative governance to bringthe Ambulatory nursing perspective for the purpose of patients carecoordination
* Consider & integrate regulatory standards & AmbulatoryClinical Operations strategic goals & initiatives.
* Provide direction & consultation to enhance theability of others to learn & impact change at the system level.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead,advise or participate in multi-disciplinary performance teams in high-profileoutpatient quality and safety initiatives. This includes organizing aninitiative and developing work plans that have the input of those areasaccountable for service delivery.

Developmentof processes and procedures to enhance ambulatory clinical and non-clinicalteam efficiency and effectiveness.

Provideleadership and ownership to various process improvement projects acting as aliaison between Ambulatory and Inpatient areas.

Developcommunication plan to keep leadership apprised of bottlenecks and barriers tosuccess.

Design,develop, and implement ambulatory focused quality and safety projects.

Serveon MGH committees and taskforces. Examples include: Ambulatory Nurse LeadershipCommittee, MGH Infection Control Committee and the MGH Joint CommissionCommittee.

Quality

Monitor processes and outcomes of care (nurse-sensitiveindicators, patient satisfaction, results from tracer activity), analyze dataand make recommendations for improvement.

Provide ongoing communication to ambulatory leadershipand staff of relevant quality indicators

Act as consultant to ambulatory care practice workgroupsand committees working on quality and compliance initiatives collaborating withCenter of Quality and Safety, Inpatient Nursing leadership and Nursing CollaborativeGovernance

Safety

Identify and develop improvement strategies to increaseadherence to National Patient Safety Goals, Joint Commission Standards and MGHpolicies and procedures.

Regularly review safety report trend data related toambulatory care to identify areas for improvement.

Serve as a Practice Support representative on ambulatorycare safety initiatives.

Compliance

Assure compliance with licensing and regulatoryrequirements of professional, state & accrediting programs within the GHambulatory practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing required; MastersDegree preferred

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience. Experiencein leading quality and safety initiatives.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

* Extensive knowledge of Accreditation and Regulatory Joint Commission Standards and National Patient Safety
* Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Innovative, superior organizational skills and the ability to work well with individuals at all levels within the institution.
* Needs to be highly motivated team player.
* Ability to manage multiple projects in varying stages of development.
* Experience delivering training, presentations, patient educational initiatives, problem resolution, analyzing data and writing reports.
* Advanced knowledge and ability to apply change management practices
* Relationship management of setting the stage for constructive relationships by being accessible, approachable, and interpersonally engaged; developing and sustaining meaningful and productive bonds with others based on mutual respect

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office conditions. May be required to travel to other local Partnersfacilities for meetings. Work occasionallymay need non-standard work hours.
