Haywood Regional Medical Center
Assigns accurate ICD diagnosis codes, using compliant documentation.
Assigns accurate CPT/HCPCS codes to records, using compliant documentation.
Applies knowledge of Coding Guidelines to select the appropriate diagnosis code.
Uses available research and reference tools to understand the disease process and diagnosis.
Interprets physician documentation within the coding guidelines and obtains clarification from physicians regarding vague or ambiguous record documentation.
Enhances coding knowledge and skills with continuing education activities as described in HIM.COD.003 policy and by reviewing pertinent literature.
Job Requirements
Minimum EducationCurrent RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS required.Other coding certifications from accredited schools will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Minimum Work ExperienceICD and CPT coding experience in an acute care facility desired.Inpatient coding experience is preferred. New graduates will be considered based on coding test scores.
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications. Must be able to communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Must actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement activities.

Our Health Support Center
Our Health Support Center (HSC), in Brentwood, Tennessee, has subject matter expertise in every area of healthcare operations and provider services. The HSC is organized to bring resources to bear across the continuum of care, from before a patient accesses healthcare services to after they are sent home, while keeping quality and compliance at the center.
On a daily basis, our group leaders and subject matter experts are working with our local markets to help develop and implement the right strategies that ensure healthcare thrives in their communities.
