Title: Food Safety Technician I

Reports To: Food Safety Team Leader

Overall Focus: To ensure that The J.M. Smucker facilities meet all Safe Quality Food Standards. Provide assistance to the Team Leader in the management & implementation of the facility Master Cleaning Schedule.

FLSA Designation: Hourly non-exempt

Salary Grade: T3

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Safety

* Demonstrates zero-injury behavior and ensures team members demonstrate zero-injury behavior
* Follow all lock-out / tag-out procedures.
* Authorized for lock-out equipment in designated area.
* Contact Maintenance lead for technical lock-out support when needed.
* Adhere to all safety SOPs and job instructions.
* Follow MSDSs, SDSs & proper labeling procedures.
* Follow The J.M. Smucker Company and OSHA safety standards.
* Actively participate in the Company Safety Program.
* Follow all safety procedures.
* Report all unsafe actions and conditions.
* Provides feedback to team members on safe and unsafe behaviors
* Provides solutions to eliminate unsafe behaviors and conditions

Sanitation

* Work with the Food Safety Team Leader and Food Safety team to complete items on the Master Cleaning Schedule.
* Conduct Food Safety inspections on equipment.
* Perform all sanitation for the assigned area including facilities and equipment following the SOPs and job instructions.
* Perform restock of Food Safety supplies when needed.
* Perform deep cleaning of all equipment safely and effectively.
* Document usage of chemicals / methods per law.
* Complete all assigned work according to schedule based on our OEE objectives and sequencing schedule.
* Help to resolve Food Safety & Sanitation issues during the C&M process.
* Maintain 95% cleaning effectiveness based on swabbing results.
* Complete re-cleans on the re-clean list.
* Complete daily tasks based upon plant needs.
* Maintain constant communication with Food Safety Team Leader and other Food Safety crew members.
* Know the whereabouts of tools at all time
* Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures and job instructions
* Take corrective actions when measures are out of specification
* Take and document required process, quality measures
* Meet or exceed established targets
* Adhere to all Food Safety procedures
* Follow all GMPs
* Keep process areas clean and neat
* Reports all infestation and rodent problems to the Food Safety Team Leader
* Ensure all buildings meet sanitation requirements
* Adheres to sanitation and chemical usage procedures

Food Safety

* Maintains Plant to be SQF and FSMA audit ready.
* Reports all Maintenance requests to the Food Safety Team Leader.
* i.e. (plant repairs, food safety and human safety requests).
* Ensures all personnel both internal and external follow Company Food Safety & GMP standards.
* Follows Red Tag procedure when warranted.
* Work with Food Safety Team Leader, Maintenance and QA support to resolve plant issues prior to returning the processing equipment into service.
* Conduct Food Safety and GMP inspections within area of accountability.
* Capable of maintaining / following SOPs in area of accountability.
* Reports critical food safety issues to Food Safety Team Leader immediately
* All Staff shall be informed to report food safety issues to supervision with the authority to initiate action
* Reports critical food safety issues to Quality Assurance and Food Safety or Food Safety Team Leader immediately

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED

Certifications/Licenses: none

Experience: Experience working in a manufacturing facility preferred. Experience cleaning, working with chemicals, managing inventory, or maintenance work preferred.

* Knowledgeable of all hazardous communication procedures
* Know how to clean following Company procedures
* Able to read machine manuals
* Understand SQF & FSMA requirements for sanitation and GMPS
* Know safety regulations and procedures
* Understand how all processing equipment works
* Understand the manufacturing process and equipment and how their responsibilities relate to its proper functioning

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

* Maneuver in tight spaces
* Stack repetitiously 50 lbs. or less
* Able to differentiate between colors
* Able to work in extreme temperature conditions (very hot or very cold)
