About the Opportunity

As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and perform professional level work at FirstEnergy. Each participant will receive on-the-job training and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies.
The Security Operations Center (SOC) Intern IT Security position supports security information and event monitoring functions utilizing FirstEnergys Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tool. This role focuses primarily on monitoring the events and logs from FirstEnergys Information Technology and Cyber Security data feeds. This position requires ability to work independently as well as within groups. Sensitivity to accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism in all areas of support activity is imperative.

Responsibilities:
Conduct production security monitoring for all information systems
Monitor, analyze, and assist other SOC analysts with events and logs from firewalls, routers, and other network devices or hosts for potential incidents and threats
Perform daily report reviews
Communicate alerts as appropriate to SOC Analysts
Document processes and procedures
Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned
Assist with metrics, reporting, and other SOC communications
Process and share information with other FirstEnergy security teams
Small projects, research, and data studies
Work with confidential information
Requirements
Currently enrolled in a bachelors degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Computer Science or technology equivalent degree
Graduation date not early than May 2022 (Graduation date MUST be listed on resume)
Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (GPA MUST be listed on resume)
Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future)
