Job Description

The Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) Team brings together world-class researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of AR and VR. These technologies have the potential for enormous global impact, and our interns work directly towards making this potential a reality. As a Research Engineer Intern, you will help us bring the best of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision technology to Facebooks AR/VR's products. Our efforts are to push the bar in three directions: build reliable platforms that scale to thousands of engineers, push state of the art in AI for maximum product impact and build new experiences using AI. Focus areas include: Computer Vision, AR/VR, generative methods (such as GANs, neural rendering), deep learning model optimization (such as pruning, quantization and neural architecture search), semantic understanding (such as object detection and pose estimation, video summarization), 3D geometry understanding (such as deep local features), and human understanding (such as human body pose estimation, action recognition) and more.

Research Engineer Intern - Mobile Vision (PhD) (Menlo Park) Responsibilities

* Perform research to advance the science and technology of intelligent machines

* Perform research that enables learning the semantics of data (images, video, text, audio, and other modalities)

* Devise data-driven depth estimation algorithms

* Contribute research that can be applied to Facebook product development

Minimum Qualifications

* Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in Computer Science or a related field

* Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches

* Experience manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources

* Experience in machine learning and optimization

* Experience building systems based on machine learning and/or deep learning methods

* Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

Preferred Qualifications

* Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op

* Ability to communicate complex research in a clear, precise, and actionable manner

* A strong interest in theoretical and empirical research and for answering hard questions with research
