About the Role

eBay NYC is looking to hire a world-class Data Engineer who can help build the future of personalized recommendations at eBay. You will be part of an agile integrated data science/engineering team, which is responsible for all merchandising and personalization algorithms for eBay marketplaces.

This is a unique opportunity to impact recommendation technology which rank eBay's 1+ billion active items in real-time. eBay has a large semi-structured data and with millions of new inventory listed every day. This makes traditional collaborative filtering algorithms difficult to use reliably. We apply cutting edge AI/machine learning techniques on petabytes of data on thousands of Spark nodes. You will be working with other data scientists and data engineers in a team which includes creating new AI/ML models, deploy models in recommendation products which serve billions of requests at very low latency.

eBay is building out a high performance cluster of GPUs to tackle some cutting edge Deep Learning problems. All this computing power is used to analyze over 30 Petabytes of data in order to gain better insight on how to best serve users.

Minimum Qualifications

* BS/MS in computer science/engineering from a leading university

* Minimum 5+ years in software development

* Strong backend engineering background, ideally using Java and/or Scala

* Hands on experience with Spring/Akka or other frameworks is a plus

* Hands on experience with Spark/Hadoop. Use of Cascading and Scalding is a plus.

* Hands on experience with any streaming platforms like Storm, Kafka, Flink, Beam is a plus.
