The Role
Fidelitys Charitable Technology team is seeking a skilled and highly motivated Architect to join our development team. The Director of Architecture will be instrumental in driving platform innovation and in turn enabling the organization to stay on the cutting edge of digital philanthropy. This position is responsible for working across all Fidelity Charitable products/programs as a trusted advisor, providing direction and guidance on all aspects of technology delivery. This person works with the business, partners, executive leadership and agile development teams to deliver solutions, providing best practice and standards oversight, developing architectural blueprints, technical proof of concepts and solution designs. This role requires a combination of practical hands on implementation support alongside architectural design and oversight.

* Directly supporting agile development teams in developing solutions, engaging in both a hands on, and an architectural oversight role
* Working to continuously improve technology craft patterns, practices, tools and methods
* Continuing to sharpen the blade of technology patterns and techniques based on understanding changing trends
The Expertise and Skill You Bring
* Strong software architecture skills and knowledge with proven track record in delivering complex software systems
* Knowledge and experience with contemporary web architecture patterns, practices, and technologies (e.g understanding of micro-services, REST, Single page applications)
* Knowledge of and experience of applied enterprise integration patterns to support back-end processing
* Understanding of the full end to end technology stack (i.e. front-end client to database, and application to infrastructure)
* Understanding of cloud-based infrastructure and dev-ops practices
* Ability to communicate effectively and to maintain meaningful relationships with business and technology partners
* Focus on being sufficiently hands-on, pragmatic and willing to step in to code reviews and implementation design discussions
* Note stack is comprised of a mix of Java server-side technologies, Oracle DB, Mongo, HTML5, CSS3 and JS (Angular) alongside legacy components
* Ability to think strategically and deliver tactically be a big picture problem solver with the ability to jump in and help deliver on the vision
* Bachelors or masters degree in a technology-related field (e.g. Engineering, Computer Software, etc.)
* 10+ years of experience in multiple IT areas that include analysis, design, evaluation, development, and implementation
* 3+ years in architecture, lead position
* 8+ years experience engineering/developing web enabled applications
* Strong and proven full-stack experience in application development
* Systems integration pattern knowledge and experience (with expertise in REST API design)
* Knowledge of secure coding practices, and common security protocols and patterns
* Experience within Cloud-based architecture patterns and practices
* Understanding & applicability of emerging technology trends of analytics, mobile and AI
* Experience with Agile development methodology
* Experience in SDLC, TLM, tools, technology, business models, vendor selection and pricing
* Understanding and experience implementing 12-Factor based applications
* Knowledge and experience of the micro-services architecture pattern
* Experience with front-end UI patterns, practices and technologies
* Demonstrated understanding and proven track record of developing solutions using a continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD) model
Background with any of the following is a plus
* Experience with native mobile development
* Experience in data integration / big data tools and technologies

History of Fidelity Investments
The Fidelity Fund was established in 1930, a year after the stock market crash of 1929 and before the Great Depression of 1933. The fund continued to operate until 1943 when it was acquired by Boston-based lawyer Edward C. Johnson II. At the time, the fund reported assets under management valued at $3 million. In 1946, Johnson II founded the Fidelity Management and Research Company, now Fidelity Investments, to serve as an investment advisor to the Fidelity Fund. When running the fund, Johnson’s objective was to buy stocks with a potential for growth, and not necessarily blue-chip stocks.
