Responsibilities

The State Farm Law Department will again be hosting a paid summer internship program in 2021. Representing a Fortune 50 company and well-known brand, our lawyers are challenged and empowered. As a community, we help one another grow professionally and personally. It is part of who are and have been since 1922.

Our mission is to provide outstanding legal service wherever and whenever the clients need it. State Farm's legal practice, while demanding, respects the need for balance between professional, family, and community obligations. The Law Department encourages attorneys to give back by providing pro bono legal services and volunteering within their communities. We embrace diversity and inclusion.

The Law Department is comprised of over 750 attorneys (nearly 200 in Bloomington, IL) who provide a range of services similar to the services provided by a full-service law firm. Our attorneys specialize in a variety of practice areas including litigation, government affairs, insurance counseling, financial services, privacy and information security, commercial transactions, and intellectual property. Our internship program strives to provide our interns with a balanced and realistic representation of the corporate law function, as well as real world exposure to the multitude of legal services we provide. Interns will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with attorneys on assigned projects, receive exposure to a variety of practice areas within State Farm, and will have a designated supervisor, writing coach and mentor throughout the summer.

The internship period is scheduled from 5/17/2021-7/30/2021 and the position will be a paid virtual opportunity at $40/per hour. The summer interns selected will receive a $2000 internship stipend as well.

Qualifications

* 2L students currently enrolled in an ABA accredited Law School, in the top third of their class
* Leadership skills through extracurricular and professional endeavors
* Strong research skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Applicants are required to be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work opportunity
