2021 New College Grad: Firmware Engineer I
Location: Marlborough, Massachusetts

The newly hired electrical engineer in this position develops, designs, and tests digital components used in satellite communication systems, solving problems in areas such as satellite waveform processing, antenna pointing, high speed user interfaces, and data management and protection. Designs will be implemented using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), System on Chip (SOC), and Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs). The task may include laboratory integration, test and evaluation, and fault isolation of prototype hardware. The engineer may also support system qualification testing, including tests involving communication with active satellites in earth orbit.

Key responsibilities for the qualified candidate include:

* Writing and reviewing design descriptions and requirements
* Code development and reviews for designs and/or test benches
* Running simulations and collecting/improving code coverage
* Schematic diagram review and input for programmable logic device support
* Target device trade studies, recommendations, and selection
* Creating project and constraint files for synthesis and place and route
* Understanding and resolving timing violations
* Hardware verification using lab equipment such as multi-meters and oscilloscopes
* Communicating progress of assigned tasks to team lead

Security Clearance & Other Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.

Requirements:

* Customer focus and collaboration skills
* Excellent written and oral communication skills
* Familiarity with digital logic design.
* Familiarity with VHDL or Verilog programming languages
* Familiarity with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) or Complex Programmable Logic Devices (CPLDs)
* Familiarity with simulation tools such as Modelsim or Questa, or analytical tools such as MATLAB/Simulink is a plus.
* Basic knowledge and lab experience with multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers

Desired Requirements:

* Linux scripting experience (bash shells, make files, Tcl, Python)
* Familiarity with programmable logic development tools (e.g. ISE, Vivado, Quartus II, Libero, Synplify)
* Familiarity with source control (e.g. GIT, SVN, ClearCase)
* Familiarity with C/C++, HLS, or UVM
* Previous co-op experience is a plus

Required Education:

* Candidates must be currently enrolled in a BS degree program (or have completed a degree no more than 18 months prior to start date) with an emphasis in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering or science curriculum.
* Candidates must complete their Bachelors program and be available to start no later than June 2021.
