Histology Technician PRN
Job Summary: Under the direction of the Histology Supervisor, prepares tissue and body fluids for examination by pathologists. May supervise the work of histology aides or trainees.
Minimal Acceptable Job Qualifications
Education/Registration/Certification:
Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED).
ASCP Registration as a Histotech or successful completion of an 18 month histology program from an accredited college, or a minimum of two years of training in histologic and cytologic technique under the direction of a pathologist. Training must include, at a minimum, embedding, cutting, and staining and must be sufficient to make the trainee ASCP registry eligible.
Experience: Prior experience preferred, but not required.
Job Knowledge & Skills:
Requires knowledge of histology procedures including specimen embedding, tissue sectioning, and staining techniques.
Requires basic analytical and organizational skills in order to prepare high quality slides appropriate for each diagnostic test.
Requires a working understanding of laboratory policies and procedures in regard to specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting; in addition to the operation and maintenance of related equipment.
Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills necessary to interact effectively with all internal and external unit customers.
Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written
